Boise Paper Truck Drivers Banned From Using Cell Phones

BOISE, Idaho — The trucking division of a Boise paper company has banned its drivers from using cell phones on the road as a safety precaution.

BCT Inc. General Manager Dan Bernert says the new policy is not popular with the company's 250 drivers, who now have to pull over if they want to make a phone call, but the measure is necessary.

The company, a division of paper producer Boise Inc., says two drivers have had minor accidents with cell phones.

From the way I understand the article, these guys literally have to pull over to the side of the road in order to talk, so I am guessing that even bluetooth isn't allowed while driving.
 
Why is cell phones causing so much trouble? Is it dialing out & or text messaging? On another board one fellow said he text messages on his cell phone while driving and no one was going to stop him from doing it. I know nothing about cell phones, never owned or used one.

I never had no one stop at a red light and forget to go when it turned green talking on a CB radio, but I've had many do this while talking on their cell phone.

The device is easy enough to manage, if only making or receiving calls. In actuality, it is the conversation that is distracting. I've been yakking it up and driven right past an exit I needed to hit, or, lost complete track of my surroundings. I space out during telephone conversations, especially while having phone sex..

Hate to tell ya 2xR, but that's what happens when you get older, it's hard to do two things at once such as driving and talking on a phone, walking and chewing gum...HAHAHAHA.....Just messing with ya...lol...:clap:

Now just a moment, I remember the day that I could drive my truck down the super slab, change gears on a set of boxes, smoke my cigarettes, eat a cold sandwich while gulping down a coke from the cooler setting in the passenger floor board, while talking on my CB radio and never miss a gear while staying in my lane.

What's happened to our tuck drivers in modern America?

Its pretty much inevitable that this thread turn into a discussion of cell phones and drivng overall, so here goes.

I've always though that cell phones aren't the best thing for safe driving. But, like most people, I do it anyway. I do try to limit my texting, as several times I've caught myself looking more at the phone, and less at the road. One of my great fears is to drift off the pavement, and smack a car parked on the shoulder.

I have a friend who swears by headsets. Most of the time when I talk to him, I have to rush off the phone because he buys ones that seem to pick up all kinds of background noise, and I can't stand to listen to them. I also try to explain to him that I've had the idea that a headset really makes no difference because you are not concentrating on what you're doing and that is where the danger is.

Now, as to regulation, New York and California, as well as other places hav made it a law that you at least use a hands free device of some type while on the phone and driving. I've always though that it was kind of ridiculous and wondered how they would enforce such a thing.

How the hell is a company going to enforce this?
 
They will set up some kind of incinitive for drivers to narc on each other. Something like 50$ reward if you see a company driver on the phone while driving. Its crap but there will be drivers turning other drivers in. :(
 
its hard for me in my p/u to drive, shift, talk on cell phone, yell at other drivers and think at the same time...but I do it..and most of the time when I'm yelling it's cause someone is on the phone and not paying attention................
 
Thats why i use the bluetooth. That way i can tell people they are number one when they do something stupid. Alot of stupid people now days. I had to put my finger in a cast for so much useage. :wtf:
