entry-level driver training

Entry-level driver training is the formal instruction and behind-the-wheel training that new commercial motor vehicle drivers must complete before obtaining their initial commercial driver’s license (CDL), upgrading a CDL class, or adding certain endorsements. It typically includes:

- A standardized theory (classroom/online) curriculum on safety, regulations, and vehicle operation
- Behind-the-wheel training on a range or public road
- Instruction provided by a registered training provider that meets government or regulatory standards (for example, the U.S. FMCSA’s ELDT requirements)
