Life halted my military driving career 16 years ago. Finally obtained my civilian CDL A license. Now I am just pimping myself out and being told "No thanks, no recent "experience". So I'm looking forward to all your stories. Hammer down safely. Thanks for having me.

depending on when you graduated you may need a refresher class. maybe smaller companies will take a chance on you, but they also have insurance companies that dictate to them, who gets hired. as for the big mega companies, many times they send you out with a trainer for some road time, each company has a different policy on that.

good luck, don't give up yet

welcome to the site.

Welcome to the forum. If your record is clear and your license and medical are current, there should be a company that will hire you. Just have ro beat the bricks a little harder is all. We'll help with ideas as much as we can.

No way am I quitting, but I am now looking for a good regional company to work with for a year (New England) to just get the miles in, but I don't just want to be a "steering wheel holder". My last employment driving regularly was in April, but I am able to drive once or twice a month through school so I am trying to keep my skills up. I appreciate the work it takes and all the experience you all have and can give.

Did you go to a driving school to regain your CDL, or is it just one you've kept current for 16 years?

The insurance industry (think pointy headed geeks) have "determined" that experienced drivers with at least a 2-year layoff are more likely to get in a serious accident than a recent driving school graduate with 6 months experience.

Don't get bent out of shape! It is what it is, and that's the environment we operate in these days.

The insurance carriers control who gets a seat, and who doesn't.

So, no recent experience usually means that an experienced driver will have to get a refresher course before they can be hired. Inexperienced CDL holders have 6 months to get hired, or they have to get a refresher course too.

Good luck, and don't give up!

I hope that I am not coming across as "bent out of shape", I am frustrated yes, but I understand that this is all the nature of the beast.

i am slightly confuzed.

you ARE IN school right now?

and you wanna drive once or twice a month?

at least give me your location, like city/state, but i have no absolute guarantees, as this amounts to even less than part time work.

I think he's saying he goes to the school once or twice a month to drive their trucks around and he wants a regional, full-time job.

Now I am confused.

I have my CDL, I got it through NETTTS.
oh so you go to NETTTS in Pawtucket, to keep up your skills..??

and you got your CDL in 2016.>??

i wasn't teaching there then..

are you close by to Seekonk? (Rte 6?)

i thought he meant, he was in school, you know like accounting, and only driving trucks once or twice a month, or that he wanted a job, driving once or twice a month, no jobs like that available.

i have a few names, but ain't gonna post them till he comes back, and tells me where he's been around the area i ask if he is near.

Welcome to the forum. Is NETTTS still around? I went through the Baltimore school in 93.
i do believe the MD location has been closed, since you left. there was a pretty big lawsuit about the school discriminating against "people of color". do a search, i just did and found that.

can't say exactly when they closed up. i worked at the RI location in mid 08 till late 09. at least on year there, and there was no mention of Baltimore.

and yeah, the RI and Andover, MA locations, Bridgeport CT, Hartford, CT are still going strong with an "up to" $12,000 tuition.....
