West Virginia towing company ordered to pay back overcharges

Truck driver David Coon received an unexpected phone call earlier this week. Almost three-and-a-half years after a crash in West Virginia yielded a towing bill of more than $8,000, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association informed its member that he will soon be receiving a check for $2,236.79 as compensation for overcharges by the tow company.

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia recently ruled that Hutch’s Wrecker Service charged thousands of dollars more than the allowable rate for the tow of Coon’s tractor-trailer after the May 11, 2013, accident.
