can you smoke pot at all?

I've been told I'm getting allergic to alcohol. I can only have a few drinks before I feel flushed and sick. @DrDaliah ever heard of this?
Yes but may not be a true "allergy". Could be a medication interaction, a heart issue, a blood pressure spike, or for some reason you're not breaking down the acetaldehyde because you lack an enzyme. We see this in the Asian population but is rare to happen all of a sudden

I don't take any pills at all other then potassium, calcium and a multivitamin. Started happening about 10 years ago. Every year one less drink. Now it's 2 at most then have to go to bed.

I got a BAC (blood alcohol content) ticket when I was 20.
BAC is like a DUI 'light' and I could have gotten completely out of it $200 but I didn't and it's still on my MVR.
That ticket was 20 years old and in a non CMV when I leased to ACT about 20 years ago and when they saw it they declined my application!
I had to go in and talk them into leasing me on and that was 5 years experience and no other issues or accidents.

The safety guy told me they didn't usually hire DWI but they were more concerned that I lied on the app stating that I had no tickets.
:stare1:

The driver shortage is propaganda itself. There is no shortage. They just want an excuse to oversaturate the labor pool to keep wages depressed.

Maybe I should rephrase: "Qualified Drivers" ... and here in Cali, there is a great shortage of them. Insurance Companies looking at unbelievably bad MVR's, failed drug tests, criminal records and lack of experience.

The shortage here is very real.

Don't take my word for it.. . just take a midnight stroll into any HR dept. of your larger trucking companies here in Cali and peruse their DQ files....

The first thing a prospective company is going to require from you is a copy of your drivers license. They need nothing else. That license goes straight to the Insurance Carrier.

If you are good, the next words are "when can you start?"

If you ain't so good, you'll hear nothing and every time you call you will get the dubious "run-around"

But, you already know this stuff, right?

Of course, there are those brave, money-hungry companies that own their own Insurance Companies and they will do just that: Pull your app from the DQ file and put your sorry ass on the road.

No shortage? Really?

[QUOTE="Getfit Tommy,
No shortage? Really?[/QUOTE]

CL ads around here are looking for clean MVR and background with years of experience...
Paying 11 or 12 dollars.

BIG SHORTAGE OF THOSE!!

No shortage? Really?
There's no shortage.

Really.

The big crappy companies may perceive there to be a shortage simply because nobody in their right minds with a clean MVR wants to work for them, for a long list of reasons these carriers refuse to even acknowledge as being a fault.

Low pay
Micromanagement
Slow, underpowered trucks
Inward facing dash cams
Keeping drivers out longer than a week at a time

Just to name a few.

I will take this perspective. I don't like talking out my ass. The information I gave is empirical data that I gained working for one of the largest "privately-owned" trucking companies in Cali, Ore. and Wa.

I can relate to what you say and I do have an open mind. Knowledge is Power indeed....

What is being spoon-fed to us right now is that there IS indeed a shortage of qualified drivers, and that by the time us "baby-boomers" retire, that number nearly doubles.

I have to ask this question and surely the answer lies in the obvious: "Why are so many larger trucking companies buying out truckdriver training facilites but NOT requiring the graduate drive for them specifically?

I'm gonna hurl if it's just going to come right back down to what it always does: The Almighty Dollar.

All this "safety" and compliance crap then, must really be crap. The State writes us and bills us and makes new laws not in the true name of Safety for the GP, but for more revenue....

.. and that is disgusting.

You may be right. I've never been one to buy what I read in the media as they are spoon-fed garbage also.

Like I said, what I know is what I've seen first-hand, but maybe it's just isolated B.S.

Do kids today really want to drive a big rig. Do they REALLY want to live the life? Are they not always begging for more money and more home-time along with less miles?

What is the TRUTH here?

I have nothing else to go on, but I am curious where the industry will be 20 years from now.

In the Midwest most good, reputable companies maintain the belief that it takes a hood ( a REAL truck) and a sympathetic attitude towards a real OTR driver.

I know that is a fact. Katana is part of my reference there. Mama Katana is in her 80's and still dispatches and tends to affairs of the drivers. Driver Retention for them is near 100%

It has to make you wonder....

maybe with Coke or Hero... they are water soluable, you piss out what isn't absorbed by the system, and what the piss tests check for is the byproducts and altered waste products left and released over time as the body detoxes itself, that lasts WAY longer than the actual drugs themselves, which only last as long as the high.

Pot is lipid soluable. Tt binds to fat and flushes out over the course of months as your body metabolises the fat.
Which means you have testable byproduct being flushed out for a LONG time.
