LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A prominent west Louisville businessman announced Tuesday he is closing his trucking company and laying off about 150 drivers and staff.
Charlie Johnson said he couldn't find enough clients and get enough grant money to keep Xpress Trucking afloat. Johnson's goal was to help convicted felons and others struggling to make it get their CDLs, and ultimately, jobs. The business plan, which included a school to train these people, just didn't work.
................
The head of the Celedon Group, an Indianapolis transportation firm, said the company will take over some of Xpress' accounts in Louisville and possibly hire some of the drivers who are losing their jobs.
