Working for a fleet, yay or nay?

What do you like about working for a fleet? What do you dislike?
Constant paycheck, less responsibilities, better/worst hours?
What extra perks do you get with your fleet?
Even if you are an O/O, what would it take to join a fleet?

There are a lot of advantages to being contracted to a fleet, if it’s a good fleet to work for. You don’t have to worry about settlement checks bouncing, you get to take advantage of fleet fuel discounts, insurance discounts, you don’t have to be your own collection agency, tracking 15-60 days worth of invoices, no factoring fees, fuel purchases tracked digitally and IFTA taxes calculated and filed for you... plus other perks like the ability to charge repairs to their account (with approval of course) and then reimburse the company in installments, while also receiving their discounted rates on tires and repairs. The disadvantages would be things like having to run more contract freight rates and less spot-market rates, and the inability to sign an agreement with the broker of your choosing. Even though there is a very large list of brokers I can work with, I sometimes run across some great loads that I can’t book because we don’t have a brokering agreement on file.
