What are the things Truckers DON'T like doing?

Howdy Y'all,

I was telling my Mom the other day that I am thinking about getting my CDL, She just retired from her shipping manager job at a Steel Company and she was listing a few of the things Truckers don't like to do if they can help it. The biggest thing she pointed out was how hard it was for her to get a truck to take a load around any of the major holidays.

Not trying to start some kind of whine-fest,drunk2:<-- not talking about this kind of wine-fest) but I'm interested in hearing what kinds of things most drivers try to avoid?

I'll try to start off by guessing (from what I read) that most don't like to go to New York City.

You're right,many do not like going to NYC.tOO MUCH TRAFFIC,NARROW ROADS,TIGHTturns.It can take as long as 5 minutes just to make a turn.New Yorkers or many of the east coast could care lessif u wanna turn or get in the other lane,they wont slow down so u can do so.Im one of them lazy trk drivers,LOL the thing I hate is getting an 800 mile run and have to be there the next morning.I like to sleep in.As far as major holidays go I don't mind it.Companies will let u have it off if requested and plenty of time u let your dispatcher know in advance.Two yrs ago I stayed out for xmas,my choice and I drove thru Baltimore day before xmas eve and it was'nt bad at all.It was actually nice It seems like more folks are nice to oneanother during the xmas season then they go back to being nasty afterwords.

I'll go anywhere the money's at. That being said if I ain't getting paid for it I ain't doing it. That's pretty much my philosophy.

What i didn't like doing?.....hmmm......right off hand i can think of being made to be responsible for the loads. I'm talking about having to go inside and having to count whats going on the truck and then having to sign for it. Always thought this was odd in a way. Its shippers/recievers freight and companies truck so how can i be held responsible for it? Never once did i sign my name, always jotted down john hancock or something in the like. Then theres the having to get a comcheck to have them take their shit off my (companies) truck. Thats a scam in my book. Companies do this so they are not responsible if somebody gets hurt unloading/loading the trailer. But we have to pay for it. WTF? Those companies should have to pay for it not us. Oh yeah and the hurry up and get there just to wait to get backed up to a dock. Walmart was bad on this.

YEP,Ihear that.You have to hurry up and get there only to sit for hrs then u pay them to unload their crap.I still have issues with that.Sure it does'nt come out of my pocket but it's the principle.

WHAT? I say F@#$ that, install a set of those freight rollers like they use in cargo planes and open the doors, slam it in reverse and leave that crap in their parking lot! Let their warehouse go-fers retrieve that crap from the parking lot and then we'll see who pays who next time!

and they get away with it, and on top of that the company will give you 75$-100$ to unlaod the truck but will pay 300$ or even more for them to unload it. Really shows how much these companies care about there drivers.

All talk 'cause nobody in their right mind would pull a stunt like that. On a few occassions if i felt i was just getting screwed around(having to wait after a scheduled appointment time or to what seemed some jacked up unload or seeing fools who got there after me get unloaded first) i often would mention that i will just come back the next day and charge them a 2nd delivery fee, it didnt matter to me since it wasnt my product. After a few looks of wondering if i was serious, they would have me backed up to the dock in just a few minutes. Learned as long as i did this respectful and serious it would work, they had no clue that i wasn't going anywhere and had to stay there. Called their bluff and it it pays off on occassions.

Yeah, I know it's all talk, but it's what comes to mind. It doesn't matter what industry you work in, there's crap like this everywhere and he who plays the game the best, wins. Or at least stay a float.

When I was repairing hail damage on cars, the insurance companies use to want a picture of every part we removed, like we're able to fix it without removing the parts. Anyway, it got to the point where each tech would take one part off, call the adjust over to take the picture, then when he got back to the other side of the building we would remove another part, all day long, the adjuster had to walk back and forth, after a couple of days or so he got the point and changed his mind on the pictures.

It's all a big game!
