TV Antenna

Will my stock Tv Antenna in my truck work with the new Digital TV's?
If not what kind do I use?

Mine works just fine with the stock antenna. I found that the "V" antenna that the truck stops sell got a little better reception in my last truck. I just can't stand to mess up the look on this new one with an extra antenna so I suffer with a little signal loss.

My TV shows a % meter. I generally see about 50-60% signal with the stock one and about 70-80 with the "V".

Only problem I find is that I seem to lose signal when trucks drive by a lot more using the stock antenna. It only last 2 seconds or so though...

I am using one of those digital converter boxes with and older tv and the antenna built into the roof of my sleeper. I have found that if I back into a spot the other trucks driving by interrupt and interfere with the signal and reception. This can be aggravating and interrupt the program so muck it isn't worth watching.

I usually find a spot on the outside row and park nose in (a habit I picked up to protect the hood of my truck, but that is another thread!). I try to find a place that faces the nearest city and usually get pretty good reception and the number of and variety of channel choices varies depending on the size of the nearby city.

There are some places I stop that there is little to no reception so then I just pop a movie into the disc drive on my laptop and feed the video to the tv and the sound into the stereo the truck has. The truck stereo has 8 speakers ans a subwoofer under the bunk so the sound is awesome.

Another thought...

WalMart sells an amplified antenna. You have to plug it into a 110v outlet. It claims to greatly improve the signal. I think it was $30 or so. They had 3 or 4 styles so you could get one that was right for where you wanted to put it.

I don't want to buy a inverter to run it. Is there a amp that runs on 12volt?

This might be a little help. I am sitting in the Flyin' Hook in Beaver, UT. On the first scan I got 3 channels and only one actually came in well enough to watch. So I moved to a different part of the parking lot, pointing in a different direction, rescanned for reception and now I get 23 channels!

It all comes down to this: Location, location, location.

I bought one of those expensive V rabbit ear antennas from the truck stop and I'm quite pleased with the results vs the walmart amplified one I had. I hate the messy look of the rabbit ears on my mirror so I'll be relocating it to the back of my cab and mounting long whip antennas that extend much higher above the rig to give in when I hit a bridge or something slightly higher than my rig.

I bought an antanna from a truck stop that was supposed to be digital ready,I never got so much as a picture. So wally world had one on sale for 20 bucks and I grabbed one.Canada has not switched to all digital yet ( next month I think) I tried it in Canuckistan it worked like the old rabbit ears, So I tried it in the U.S. It was amazing,Just like watching cable so clear.Unless a truck went by and broke up the signal then it went blank for a minute and then right back.No snow no noise.I am very happy. It's a Phillips that I bought but I'm sure they all work well.
