I'm curious about some truck stops that I used to stop at between Arkansas and the West Coast, if they're still opened and or long gone. Some may not even be remembered, this was from the 70's & 80's.
Wicket, TX, a McClain's, there was also one at El Paso. I hardly ever stopped at Wicket, but the one at El Paso was a regular stop for me.
380 Mile marker west of Dallas, Cunningham I believe was the community. Somewhere along that section there was a truck stop on the old highway, gave free fired chicken with a fill up
White Elephant, I forget what community it was.
Abilene, TX, Tye exit I believe, they had to have the worse water between here and the west coast, it was off the south side of !-20, I did not stop at it much and there was an old truck stop west of it a ways on the north side of I-20 that had better food and service.
At Midland, all I remember calling it was the midland Truck Stop, may have been a Texaco, it was off the north side of I-20 just a ways up the street.
Warfield Truck stop, Odessa, TX.
Texaco Truck Stop at Colton, CA.
Sheriffs at Las Cruces, NM.
North of Bakersfield at 7th Standard Road, that place had the best sausage gravy and biscuits between Arkansas and the Pacific Ocean.
Any comments would be greatly appreciate, I will try to check in tomorrow, but it may be late Sunday evening before I can get back I was thinking about some of these places today and it dawned on me that some of you might tell me about my old beaten path from years gone by.
I might add, I may have some in the wrong place, my mind is a bit foggy for many days have gone by since I was out that way. And I may think of a few more later on as the memory wakes us.
