Yesterday wifey had the weather channel on the TV all day watching the highway shutdowns, etc in our area as the ice/snow storm went through. Traffic was very light, schools, etc were closed for the day long before the storm front hit.

BUT.....

In Atlanta.... the home of the weather channel.... everybody ignored the warnings. By 4PM the whole damn city was in total gridlock. They had the schools open and were trying to send the kids home. All roads shut down and they had busloads of kids stuck in massive traffic jams for hours and parents trying to get to the schools to retrieve kids. Total Cluster F--k.

Onliest "reasonable" explanation I can think of is that Direct TV dropped the Weather Channel off it's program list. So maybe Atlanta is on the satellite system. Big mistake.

Betcha the lawyers in Atlanta don't need no Viagra today.:D

No, I think it had more to do with the citizens of Atlanta hearing about snow and wondering what in the heyall is snow? Never heard of it, I could Google it but, Aint No Body got time for that! lol

Honestly, even up home we have folks who need 2 pretty good snowstorms before brain kicks in and they realize "Crap, it's winter and I need to get my snow tires on".

You should have seen the first couple of years when the FWD's came out. They fell for that ad bs about no longer needing snow tires because FWD has amazing traction. Yup, right until your half-worn out rear tires turned into skis and then away you went.

that happened up here about 8-9 years ago. schools were not canceled, and the kids on the busses didn't get home (in some instances) until 11 PM...

Some students were returned to the school bus yard until their families could pick them up. Rose said about half a dozen students were still at the bus yard at about 11 p.m.

Rose says some students who ride buses that make multiple school stops waited for hours at school for their rides after school let out early at 1 p.m. They were cared for by teachers and administrators, she said.

from that day on...any mention of snow, cancels school, or at the very least, delays it by about 1-3 hours.

that happened in georgia a couple years ago. ppl were stranded on the interstates for 10+ hours. south may be hospitable, but they sure ain't smart :bonk:
