Fleet Owner magazine has released its “State of Trucking Report,” which examines the last five years of the trucking industry. The report focuses on four general areas: the economy; regulation; truck trends and technology; and social impacts on the industry.
“It’s an excellent time to step back from everyday business and take the pulse of this critical industry,” says the report. “What does a truck fleet look like today? How is it different from fleets of even five years ago? And what will it look like in five more years?”
Overall economic factors have improved drastically since mid-2009, according to the report, and carriers can expect continued growth. Fleet Owner goes on to provide a detailed analysis of both global and domestic economic conditions. One possible negative factor for the future’s growth is the possibility that infrastructure spending will not meet demand for road improvements.
In the regulatory arena, the last five years have brought an onslaught of rules and legislation for businesses throughout the transportation sector. Although there are still several significant rules in the pipeline, Fleet Owner expects the pace of new regulation to slow in the coming years.
