Star Car blues

Day 3 of sitting in the motel, waiting for them to fix the POS...
My observations thus far,
1) Day time tv sucks.
2)Kind of sad to watch the oversize load that you've been baby sitting for a week,go down the road after being repowered.....
3) Normal people that work 9-5, don't like to get texts at work...lol
4)Spokane has a good Chinese food place that delivers.
5) I need to win the lottery,so I can buy some land by the truckstop and open a bar....
6)I'm so bored,I offered to drive the motel shuttle van, just for something to do..

Day 5) Captain's log..
The Star Car is still down for the count....
Still waiting on parts..
Maybe tomorrow.:dunno:

Day 6) Supplies running low,
getting weaker, must try to find help...lol

Still trying to locate a special DEF line...
Lost out on 3 loads today....
Thinking it's Miller time.....

Just about the time the weather changes to the worse, so heading that'a way on the bike is out of the question.

Well,it took 7 days, but the Star is out of the shop..
Bill was just short of 7 grand...Not as bad as I figured....
Caught a couple of error's on the bill, which they took care of right away.....
Made the looooooog trek over to the Petro and get to sit until Monday...
Lost out on 2 great stretch loads while I was down. That really sucks....

What was the problem?
Bad quality DEF,low pump pressure, and some kind of contamination in the DEF tank that turned it cloudy and a bunch of grey crap and rust floating around...
They replaced just about everything except the burner....
Sent out the sample to be tested......
It almost looked and smelled like anti-freeze to me...
The internal heating element in the tank is a small metal line, kinda like the Artic Fox fuel tank heaters....Hmmmmmmm....

Wow, $7k for a DEF system repair, that is just absolutely insane.

It's things like this that make me consider moving to a 2003 or older truck in the near future. A DEF repair should not be anywhere near half the cost of an engine rebuild. No sense in this.

Part of the problem is the very limited parts availability..
The DEF lines all have special fittings and are made so they won't corrode..
So you can't just run to NAPA,grab some fittings and make them yourself..
4 of the lines came from all over the country,so the overnight shipping charges were over $300 bucks..Yes,it is insanity....

This reinforces to me that I know NOTHING about new trucks.

This is what $1600 looks like..
DEF tank, heater and 4 heated lines.
All the other parts had core charges.

Well, the POS lasted a month and a day...
Just got going on 29 and the dash lit up like a xmas tree....
Limped into the cities with the motor derating......
Don't think I'm going to make Belfield by morning...
EGR valve went bad....
Trying to locate one,so we'll see....
126 Big miles today.
