Trucking giant Schneider National Inc. has leased 17 acres for truck and trailer parking along with a 15,000-square-foot repair facility on the Southwest Side.
Schneider agreed to a 10-year lease for the property at 3600 S. Kostner Ave., just east of the Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero.
The Green Bay, Wis.-based company, one of the nation’s biggest trucking firms, moved from an existing yard at 5300 Joliet Road in southwest suburban McCook, a site slated for development.
Schneider is subleasing the property from Maersk Group, the Copenhagen, Denmark-based shipping company. Maersk is keeping an additional six acres at Kostner Avenue for container storage and parking. Schneider took over the existing building, which includes some office space and 10 repair bays for trucks and trailers.
“This space gave Schneider a large land site and a building that’s very specialized,” says Terrence Lynch, a senior associate with Chicago-based Paine/Wetzel Oncor Intl., who represented Maersk. “It was a deal between two titans of the shipping world.”
