Rumors that a student planned to open fire at East Coweta High School Thursday resulted in a lockdown at the school, a school spokesman confirmed for 11Alive News.

The students fueled the rumor that a "hit list" was discovered, but Dean Jackson, the spokesman for the Coweta County School System, said that is untrue.

Deputies from the Coweta County Sheriff's Department arrived on campus Thursday to investigate the rumor. Jackson said no weapons or threats have been found.

Some parents arrived to take their children home. The lockdown order means no students are being allowed to loiter in the hallways or on campus, teachers must account for all students in their classes, and students must be in class at the regulated times.

this school is only minutes from my house and the comotion that was happening was crazy. i can't believe this happened so close. and i live in a very quiet and safe area, or at least i thought so.
