Oversize loads in Ohio

Keendriver

Hates all of you
Just a little heads up for anyone pulling a permit load in Ohio.We got word today to stay out of truckstops in Ohio with O/D loads cuz we have been getting tickets. The message did not get into specifics as to why we are getting said tickets,we were just told to stay out of the T/S.I will endeavor to find out more.
That is all.

Not good news. Where the hell else do they want me to park next week at 13' wide, 133' long, and 120,000#??

Knowing the Buckeye, I'm betting they're calling them "off route" for varying off the routing instruction, even if only a block, or two, into a T/S... All of the States are going broke (prolly been broke, just now dealing with it), and, they are grubbing for revenue any place they can. The spirit of the law don't matter when the letter of the law nets a bank deposit.

Plus... the Buckeye hen house at the IN line on I-70 East is now permanently closed. Something broke, and, they can't afford to fix it. They will make up for that revenue loss, for sure.

Hey now, tell me it isn't so, your not hauling cranes for all crane are you. I do know of a driver who was screwed with on a permit 13 axle and Ohio is not honoring the weights per axle. We are still waiting to see if we are going out with ours to get them out of trouble. They had a guy with a all aluminum drop that had to be unloaded because he could not handle a track.

I guess this is one of them deals that's kind of hit and miss depending on which occifer sees you.I had just left New Paris Petro with my 13 wide when we got the Msg.
As I sat on the fuel island, directly across from me was a guy with some huge effin crate on 13 axles....with Ohio and Indiana troopers (escorts) and they didn't seem to be giving him a summons.............

One of our guys got off for fuel at the j between Cinci and Columbus, (I think, hard to remember as I ran out of hours loading at Ritchie Bros in Davenport earlier today and dropped trailer to drink beer), and got pulled over by a county cop as he left the parking lot to get back on the interstate. 8 axles, 132,000 lbs and was busted for width, height, length, and weight for a total of over $5,000 for the 4 separate tickets. He was informed that if you need to stop in Ohio for fuel, or your mandatory 10, you are to park in a rest area, or at a scale. Unless you are permitted off the interstate into a truck stop, yo are NEVER allowed to exit. I asked at the scale south of Columbus shortly after this to try to clarify, and was told the same thing. I asked about darkness etc, and the officer informed me that I needed to plan my trips better, there is NO excuses accepted for getting off the interstate, and dropping trailer or parking on a ramp will be considered off route as well as the ramp isn't on your permit.

I have been stopping in Florence, or Walton, KY, and running straight through OH ever since. If I can't make it through in one shot, I won't even enter the state anymore.

And here I was thinking that after they raised the speed limit, that maybe, just maybe,Ohio had redeeming qualities after all.Nope, still Douche bags.

I don't think I've ever seen fuel pumps at the scales or rest areas.

Buncha socks and sandals wearing yankee assbags they are.

Heh. That's a common fashion in Wisconsin, and I always laugh at it - being a transplant and all.

Can I drop a loaded trailer in a rest area or scale and bobtail to fuel?

Sounds like the politicians have found a new source of revenue

LOL.
You're probably riding around with black socks with sandals right now..........

Hey, I think you may have found a loophole.
PITA to do and the scales might be a little safer to leave your load than a rest area, if you didn't have someone to watch it, but I guess it beats putting up with a ration of BS.
I don't remember seeing any fuel unless it was on some of the toll road rest areas, and I'm not too sure about that.
WV and FL yes, (toll road fuel) but I doubt Ohio.

not if your OD we got a memo on this very thing...pulled an O/D outta Seattle last summer to guess where.............. Ohio and the moron at the plant , yes it WAS a guy, told us to turn right instead of left...there was construction there and that was just great.... going wrong direction on a permitted load in OHIO......grabbed my phone hit the button got a female and she said OH NO turn left.....I had looked on the map (streets and trips) and asked directions asked the guy twice because of that.....now I use satelite maps along w/streets and trips , because streets and trips has put me at the wrong spot on occasions......

I have to pull a boat out of Port Clinton , OH. after july 4th. looks like i should have full tanks when i get loaded.

I guess I'm wrong about this, but I always operated under the assumption (there's that word) that you had 1 mile off the big road to get services.Eat,sleep,fuel........

As Boone said,REVENUE

I figure if all goes well tomorrow, and I don't screw anything up (pretty nervous about this load...okay REALLY nervous) then I should be able to make it somewhere in Ohio tomorrow along 70, east of Columbus. Im thinking Cambridge scalehouse, rest area by Old Washington, or maybe the reast area by Hebron, OH.

That's a pretty tall order, around 640 miles for the day, plus a LOT of turns, most of which are going to have to be steered around, and goosenecked over, so we'll see.

I'm crossing every part I have. That will cross...I mean. I ain't tying knots in nothing...ever again.
