Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. trucking company is planning to expand in Bibb County by building a new facility and doubling its work force.
The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority agreed Wednesday to sell to Old Dominion nine acres at Ocmulgee East Industrial Park for a new truck terminal, said Kathy Bowden, executive director for the authority. The selling price is $25,000 per acre.
The Thomasville, N.C.-based company currently has a facility on Mead Road in Allied Industrial Park.
"(Old Dominion) looked at this expansion in Houston, Bibb and Peach (counties)," Bowden said. "Locating the expansion in Bibb County will result in us being able to retain the 16 jobs that are currently located at the Macon facility. The company projects that the employment number will grow to 32 in one year."
Real estate broker Will McFarlin, with Atlanta-based Burr & Temkin Inc. and who represents Old Dominion, said the company's new building is being designed and its size has not been determined.
"I think they are planning to begin construction this year," McFarlin said.
