OK as some of you have noticed, I am new here. However, not totally a "Newbie" but I'll accept that for now as it's been quite awhile since touching a semi.
Jere's my situation:
1. 48, coming on 49...
2. Worked "Some" small driving delivery (Years ago) but small van/5 speed moving truck. Most time has been in "Production" areas and warehouse and stuff along those lines.
3. Have "TAA" backing. Which means I was laid off (Company closed) and I can get training in many fields, but not much out of pocket (They pay training not too sure about rooming while training) but get UI while training and maybe (Sly look to the side) while being trained with company.
4. Have no wife, kids or life. When I "Commit" to a company, I "Commit" like in a marriage (Guess that's why I never got married hey?)
5. Right now, my pay was LESS then what a "Newbie" would make and what with $450 rent, food, land payments (I have land in midwest I love that) I was scraping by, so that's not really going to change.
6. I'd like to do this, since I have beaten myself for not (At the time) having enough guts to "Go for broke" and since I do like seeing new country I have driven (When I moved) and saw sooooo many places I'd have liked to vist for a bit (I know, gotta keep the moneymaker going) but just to "SEE" them is a good thing.
7. Just as I started to type this, had TAA rep call me for meeitng Tuesday. Paperwork (Anyone have a good cure for hand cramps? Don't say "Quit choking chicken"
8. After all this time in factory/semi-mid-level managment (I supervised anywhere from 5-300 for periods of 5days-3 months) and frankly, am just tired of a routine which offers nothing more then a skinny paycheck and worry.
Yes, you could say that's trucking, but there's always (From what I have heard from OTR drivers) that the work don't change, but the scenery does..That's a bonus.
OK, that's enough for now....Oh, BTW I'm in Vancouver, WA. There IITR and several others, but lately not seeing alot of them driving around...Maybe they too have had a drop in students?? ..Ponder and such, still go to other fields, so hit me with it...I've been readfing alot here, now is the time to post..
