With about one month remaining to get bills through the New Jersey statehouse, lawmakers continue to push through efforts that would improve safety on the state roadways.

The Assembly Transportation, Public Works and Independent Authorities Committee voted unanimously to advance one bill that would bar drivers from such activities as eating, drinking, smoking or applying makeup while at the wheel. Specifically, the bill would prohibit “any activity” unrelated to driving a vehicle.

Yeah, right. They're going to stop New Jersey-ites from drinking coffee while driving. Those people are bigger addicts than Seattle-ans.

Better invest in ticket books.

The "wording" is to vague. I dont see this moving forward at all. But on the other hand its New Jersey so anything is possible.

1. go back to "Arm Strong" standard steering that requires both hands to turn the steering wheel.

2. eliminate all electronic "toys" from vehicles; especially anything which has multi-function controls that require strong attention to operate/set.

3. eliminate all electronic/computerized "assists" for the drivers; including "self parking", "collision avoidance", etc, etc.

4. eliminate "air bags" and all other "survive a crash" items like seat belts.

5. Put a 15 minute "test" on "rules of driving"into the ignition circuit. Every time you stop and exit the vehicle, it will not restart without a 90+ grade on the test...... and you got to wait 5 hours to "retake" it.

In short, stop making "mobile wombs" that lull the weak-minded into believing there's no price to pay for stupid.

Oh, and include a message that comes over the radio every 30 min or so..... Straighten up Dummy, We be F---ing Serious out here.
