My letter to Swift

Sean McQuaid

Whiny baby
Hey, what's that acronym - S.W.I.F.T.? Oh, that means: Sure Wish I Finished Training. Well this acronym goes more for those running the company than the drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recently Driver Solutions submitted an application in my bahalf to Swift. It is outlined in detail in my previous post how Swift did me wrong last year. I was reluctant to allow Driver Solutions to submit another application to them. But I tried giving some benefit of the doubt and not be too icey about what they did last year, and give some hope they may overturn their false allegations where I am concerned. of course they did not. I was informed they would not overturn their decisions, and the reason they gave for not re-hiring me is simply that I turned down a truck and was a no show. They say this in this simle way and make it appear as though I am the one who did the wrong. I wrote Swift and pretty much told them to NEVER contact me in the future when drivers may be hard to get again. For those curious, here is what I sent to them:

That's fine (management not overturning any decisions). But I am going to make
it known in all ways possible that Swift has erroneously made it seem all was
the fault of mine, when in fact the blame rests with Swift. I do not
appreciate the fact that Swift simply said that I chose to not take a truck
and was simply (and arbitrarily) a NO SHOW, when Matthew Thompson set me up
for a problem which I could not solve. Matthew Thompson had 7 WEEKS to inform
me of being on safety hold and that I needed to take the Smith System. I feel
he purposly waited until the day I was to leave on a 500 mile trip to get a
truck knowing their was no time to accomplish the task and be signed into the
truck with the 24 hour time frame Swift requires to being seated in a truck.
There is no way someone in Matthew Thompson's position would not know if a
driver is on a safety hold or not, or not know that a driver needs to perform
anything. All he has to do is what he did on a daily basis when I called to be
updated on the truck list - ENTER MY DRIVER CODE, and my status is on his
screen. Even on the very outside chance that he needed to be informed by
safety, the fact remanis that Safety (as well as himself) had a full 7 WEEKS
to get things straight and inform me of what I needed to do prior to the day I
had to leave on a 12 hour trip for a truck - PERIOD. You people not only think
I am stupid and gullible, but you further ruin me by saying things not true or
accurate where I am concerned.

If what Matthew Thompson did to me is indicitive of the stupidity, and what is
expected of management within the trucking industry (Swift especially) is
concerned in the treatment of their drivers. Then I could not in good faith or
confidence perform any duties under these people.

I mentioned that I was reluctant to let Driver Solutions submit an application
on my behalf to Swift. However, on the chance Swift reconsidered the events, I
allowed the application to be submitted. I know the little guy is supposed to
be a spinless wimp and say nothing when he is wronged. That's not going to
happen with me. I do not tuck tail and run when I am in the right. I am also
not arbitrarily verbose, voluminous and verbally combative. But when I am
wronged, I will say as I will. I also know drivers are supposed to be
"stupid/ignorant", and not supposed to figure this out: I have seen Swift (as
well as others) have used the bad economy and ease of obtaining drivers as a
means to profit financially through subsidies, and ruin all those it can be
determined through any means of any anomalies. It's always the little guy who
loses in the short term. Not only did Swift set me up for termination of my
driver code through a task which could not be accomplished on time, but also
put an accident on my record which should not exist. My Mentor (Steven Gregg -
gregg1) forced me to file an accident report for something that did not amount
to any damage (I retained a full copy of the report submitted). Steven Gregg
was overly critical, and yet another set up for failure. I am making my full
experiences known through all blogs, forums and trucking news sites at my
disposal. And I will seek to find out if I have any legal claims as well.
Swift need not bother consider me in the future when drivers are not so easy
to come by. I will simply be overcome with laughter if called by Swift later -
DON'T BOTHER. Companies who can afford to ruin people and jerk over people
during a recession can afford to be jerked over later. Swift (as well as
others) is a dirty/trashy company using a government payoff system, who cares
nothing about anyone unless it is permitted by the person that he/she be a
slave with no regards for their own person.

I will have nothing to do with Swift at any time in the future, even if it
means my very life. People with past felonies - etc. have been hired with
Swift. I know this for a fact as my first Mentor had a bad past. You people
put me in a position/category in which is no better than a common criminal. I
am no better in the eyes of the company than someone who has committed the
worst of crimes and had the worst of accidents. And I am sure there are others
who have been victimized in other various ways to fail. I sincerely hope all
this will come back and bite Swift (as well as the other dirty companies), and
such companies get what is coming to them.

Sean.
My son just finished at Millington and loved the training he received. Did you perhaps have an accident, or some other minor problem that they would put you on a HOLD for safety?
Everyone I have asked about your problems in the trucking industry have said there has to be more to it for them to hold you up like that.
I feel really bad for you, and sorry you have had such a rough time with Swift.
I hope you are able to find a job and a company you'll be happy with,
Sometimes, things that seem really bad, turn out to be for the best in the long run. I hope for your sake this turns out to be true for you.
