Motor carrier exemption to overtime pay! Petition

So when the government issues the ruling, this year, for electronic logs, speed limiters, etc, then petition them to pay you for all your time. Why make the carrier pay for it? There are so many good carriers that do not play this type of restriction game on their drivers. True, they may have the means to control your life, but many do not waste their time, or yours, doing so.

So you agree with practices employed by the coolies when they use 'trainees' as bond servants?

Most of the bigs totally support (and lobby) for the other things mentioned...
because any savings equates to increased profit, or more likely artificially suppressed rates.

The 'level field' they lobby for regarding Elogs cost them nothing because they'll pay the same rate as always.

Do you think they'd support it otherwise?

Same thing with speed limiters.
How lucrative would the fuel savings be if they had to pony up the 10% wage spread to compensate the driver for lost time?

All of the 'safety' concerns of the ATA lobby just so happen to put dollars into the pockets of mega carriers.

As has been mentioned already, you can vote with your feet and go elsewhere. Either to another carrier or out of the business altogether. No one is holding a gun your nards and making you work where you are.

It's not about me.
I'm long past the point of being sucked into the 3 card monty scam that the mega's play.
Driving is a second career for most since it's tough to get in prior to having 4-7 years in the work force after graduating from high school, trade school, etc.
It's about the poor bastards being recruited into this industry with the promise of a means to extricate themselves from a bad situation only to learn that they've stepped off the ledge and went from up-to-their-ass to over their head. And any of those 'good carriers' you mentioned are talking out both sides of their ass if they're ATA members. The ones who truly are 'good' are at a competitive disadvantage since they have to structure rates against the others.

There's no longer any reason to exempt drivers from the FLSA because technology being mandated is eliminating the ability of the driver to color outside the lines, and virtually already has since any carrier a newb can be employed by is already (happily) using & advocating all of the above.

The only reasoning I see for a driver to oppose this is a sadistic mentality of making the next guy take the same screwing he had to take to get over the hump.
We're losing a lot of quality people in this industry because of the practices of coolie carriers which is the only way to get started for most new drivers.
People like you love to bitch about about the caliber of drivers in the current culture yet you support the practices that drive many away.
WTF is up with that? o_O
