State inspectors found 18 violations at the San Jose terminal owned by a trucking company whose gasoline tanker crashed and caused a freeway overpass to collapse.

The problems at Sabek Transportation Inc. include improper maintenance record-keeping, falsifying the number of hours on the road for its drivers and brake problems, the California Highway Patrol found. As a result, the CHP placed three vehicles out of service due to unsafe operating conditions.

Sabek's hazardous materials transportation license was suspended last week after the CHP found three dozen violations at the firm's main facility in King City.

Details about problems found at the San Jose terminal were released Wednesday, after Sabek was given a chance to challenge the inspection results.

"All physical problems attributed to any truck that was inspected by the CHP after the accident were immediately repaired during the course of the inspection or shortly thereafter," Sabek said in a statement last weekend.
