Is there anyone who got out of the military and started driving truck, who could give me some advise. I will take anything i can get!!!!!!!!!

I did, but not immediately. I had been out almost a year. I signed up through a company who paid for the schooling.

So most compenys will pay for the training?

Not most, but some will. Look at the company websites, some of them have programs specifically for those separating from the Military.

Ok thanks, What are some good compenys to look at? Like I said i will be going back to Ohio.

I honestly don't think there is a big difference between the large carriers. Each has their certain differences, it is just a matter of learning how they operate.

I would look at the benefits available. Pay, insurance, etc..

Get any promises in writing cause they will lie to get you to join their revolving door policy and could care less if you stay.

This business is beat down and in the toilet so do not expect to make respectable money for some time to come.

I suggest before you go much further with this, you check with the DVA about training/education benefits. You may qualify for one or the other program (to include vocational training) to cover school costs, living expenses, or both. In some cases, your branch of service may have a transition program in place that will do the same or give you a leg up with the DVA.

I am still looking. The biggest problem i am haveing is the 4 to 6 weekes on OTR tranning. Its hard for me to get that time off with the Navy. I know that is one of if not the biggest part of the the tarnning.

Think you might be getting the cart before the horse here (or trailer before the truck). I was thinking you were looking for a training program for AFTER you were released from active service.

Still, you should contact the DVA and/or the transition office at your base for details about what sort of training programs are available.

check out the biker/trucker websites or sirius satellite radio forums..the vets are very vocal and willing to share the knowledge..you can find them manning booths at the truck shows(free) and love the freedom you can encounter when you just dont want to be tied down..The employment office has liason officers also.swift/werner/schneider/tmc etc all actively recruit military transitions..once you have a government clearance and a respect for equipment- you can transport the military equipment and wear the cool clothes you dreamed about.lol good luck
