Mar 4, 2007 — A Hanover trucking company is under federal investigation after police alleged one of its drivers - who was involved in a fatal Rhode Island crash - might have been on the road for too many hours.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is looking into a crash involving a driver from L&H Trucking in Hanover.

About 11 p.m. Feb. 6, Raymond Green Jr., 59, of Gettysburg was driving an L&H-owned truck loaded with scrap aluminum on southbound Interstate 95 in Providence, R.I., according to Rhode Island State Police Lt. Glenn Skalubinski.

Green told police that on the ramp to eastbound Interstate 195, another car cut him off, causing him to veer left. He lost control and the truck rolled on its right side, crushing a Mercury Sable in the next lane, Skalubinski said.

He said the driver of the Mercury, Joyce St. Laurent of Fall River, Mass., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Green declined to comment, saying he was not up to talking about the crash.

A police investigation found equipment violations on the truck, including a broken taillight and brakes in a condition that would have taken the truck out of service if it was stopped for a routine inspection, Skalubinski said.

"There was also a logbook violation that indicated the operator was over the allotted driving time for that period," he said.

Federal law says truck drivers can drive no more than 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off.

Not good news at all for this company. The driver's logbook isn't a huge concern for the company, but finding safety viloations on the truck involved in the wreck is not good at all. If that one has problems, I imagine they will find more with problems.

Hate to be one of their drivers crossing weigh stations for a while.
Hopefully, for the companies sake, the rest of their equipment is in better shape.
