Hello everyone! Does anyone know, or heard, anything about an oil leak in cold environment only?

All materials expand and contract at different temperatures. Your engine is made of many different materials. When it gets really cold some shrink and let the oil slip out.

We reside in Jacksonville, FL., it is a Paccar and it's not a small leak.. he has to put about 2 gallons in every other day. When he is in a warm climate, there is no leak, so when we took it to KW dealership for diagnoses, they couldn't find anything. As soon as he got back into cold weather, it starts pouring out again.

That's way too much to be just leaking from cold. You should be able to easily see that leak. I mean just go into your shop and pour out a gallon of water on the floor and see how far it spreads.

the seals will shrivel up in cold temps. when it is warmer, the seals fit to the area it is supposed to seal.

an oil dye should be put into the engine, and the engine should be cleaned first.

about a week (or 2) when it gets cold again, the shop should be able to use a black light to trace the oil leaks.

usual course of action, would be to remove the seals and install new ones, hopefully of a different brand.
