Investigators are still trying to piece together the cause of a crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 80 near Altoona, IA, around 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17.
Sgt. Scott Bright, public information officer for the Iowa State Patrol, told Land Line that Niranjan Singh from Fresno, CA, was parked on the eastbound shoulder and was standing outside his rig with the hood up “waiting for assistance” when he was allegedly struck by a second tractor-trailer driven by Terri-Lee Partridge of Niagara Falls, Ontario.
“The investigation is still ongoing concerning this collision, but what we know is that the semi (driven by Singh) was parked on the shoulder due to vehicle problems,” said Bright.
Singh was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries, but Partridge was not injured in the crash, according to Bright.
The crash shut down the eastbound lanes of I-80 for several hours on Monday.
