HazMat

Brand new member here. I'm about 3 hours old. Will having a hazmat endorsement hinder us from buying private health insurance? Also, does anyone have any insurance companies to recommend? Thanks for all the sharing. Very helpful and enjoyable read. My husband and I are anxious to get started, here and on the road. We are changing careers after 30 years of marriage to team OTR drivers. : ) ;)

Why, would this hinder you from getting health insurance? Your just going to be hauling it...not handling it.

Also, unless you are going to be pulling a tanker or a specialized carrier for hazmat..you won't be hauling anything really bad anyway.

As for health insurance provider i couldn't help you on that..

BTW, welcome to the forum..

I don't know if I would go quite that far, I have had some pretty nasty stuff in the box in the past

I've had a HAZMAT endorsement since the inception. I've also had, both private, and, group health insurance plans.

First, there isn't much difference in private, or, group insurance with the exception of who's payin' for it. Most, if not all, health insurance companies provide service for both markets. Unlike life insurance, which takes into account "lifestyles", like smoking, racing, parachuting, farming, and other high risk of dying activities, health insurance primarily looks at a persons age, sex, and, past medical history.

I have NEVER been rated at a higher premium, or, refused medical insurance coverage because of the HAZMAT endorsement on my CDL.

Welcome... I have HAZ-MAT and haven't noted any distinct change in insurance yet... I mean, aside from the all but constant rate increases that come with insurance. Can't see it being a real problem. Indeed, my provider hasn't ever asked if I have any endorsements, including motorcycle(far more dangerous than HAZMAT), which I also have. With that, I suspect there's no change because of any.
