Mudslides in last years burn scar are wreaking havoc. It may be closed for an extended period, depending on what damage they find.

Neither detour is anything I'd recommend as an option for interstate routes, just avoid I-70 in Colorado altogether. They halted construction in Little Blue Creek Canyon on US50 until they get a handle on I-70, to help carry some of the traffic, which until this week was all force up to US 40 or over CO82, Independence Pass (not a truck route, ) but they both are 4+ hour nightmares with the traffic volumes they're carrying right now.

 
Had a guy ask me,…” would you take US40 between Denver and Salt lake?”

“not in a semi.” Was my answer.

“guess I’ll go up to 80 then.”

well duh…
 
If you think that's bad, wait until one of the iron bridges on I-80 in Joliet falls into the river below. It's been deemed "structurally deficient" for several years now.
Along with 60% of the rest of the bridges in this rapidly decaying system
