Finally did my first Uber load today (booked it anyway, running it tomorrow)

Spent the day today, emailing back and forth with some brokers on loads from KC area into Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas. Basically, listing all to cover the 4 states area which gets me home.

Transplace emailed me. Of course, they require 180 day authority... I have came to an agreement with them 4 times, only to be shot down because my authority isn't old enough. Last time it happened was yesterday.

This time, when the guy emails me, I tell him to check my MC, and he will have to get it overridden before we can go any further. he assures me he can hook me up, and he did. Got everything all settled on a cheap $650 load from KC to Rogers (220 miles). Before the rate con arrives, load gets pushed out a week, LOL. Good news, I am now set up with Transplace.

So, on to Uber.

Really didn't want to waste time looking for loads at this point. Pull into Tyson, get a door and back in. Check Uber, there is a load for $750 going to Webb City (basically Joplin). 150 miles, load in the morning and deliver direct, by 1500. Looks good to me, but let me check DAT. There it is again, Uber has it listed for $850. So, rather than book on the app, I call for the extra $100. Nice way to finish the week. This load puts me 60 miles from the house so home easy by tomorrow evening.

First Uber load, still didn't get to use the app to book it..........

Just another entrant in the race to sink rates to sub cheap freight.

You know what their goal in taxi service is don't you?

Eliminate the middle man, move cash directly from riders to Uber, by sending taxi drivers into permanent unemployment. I wouldn't expect they have any altruistic motives in the freight market.

Yeah, but they gave me a ride home today for about $5/mile. Beats spending my own money for 200 miles worth of fuel.

What kind of freight are your hauling for Uber? I just assumed you had a van, and those are some crazy high rates for van loads if that's the case, especially right now. The only time I see short loads like that get up to almost $3 / mile is if they've been sitting for awhile and haven't moved or need to be expedited for some other reason. --- That's a steal. Grats.

vegetable oil, dry van

Only load I have had under $3 this week was one I picked up in Oklahoma. Only did that because it was a really good load into Oklahoma, and the load I picked up allowed me to go home and take a couple days off before taking it on into Ohio. The load to Ohio was just short of $3

Explain that.

Rates are hitting a ceiling they have never seen before and busting right through it. Right now, there is no sign that they are going to do anything but keep climbing.

That's what Homer Simpson said about his pumpkin stocks right before Halloween. :D

Actually it's the Trump effect, economy is up. More crap needs moved. Compounded by probably a very large number of older drivers who called it quits over the ELD mandate. Supply vs demand.

Pretty painless load. Took about 30 minutes to get loaded. About the same to get unloaded.

Gonna spend twice that much time here at the truc wash.

One would think they would pay out like they pay drivers for their ridesharing app. It would go right into your account upon completion of the run.
Of course you would have to Transflo or scan and E-mail the bill of lading.
"Instant pay" usually means they take a chunk out for that service.

OH I know, With a regular broker. That is how they get more money out of the fly by night owners that can't wait the 30-90 days.
I was just saying that UBER pays their ridesharing drivers instantly with no penalty, so why not truck load drivers.

Our QuickPay system requires a $15.00 com check fee + 5% of the load. If you take a fuel advance, that's another $15.00 com check fee as well. Our branch office makes nothing off of these either. All of that money goes to corporate.

The only time I ever see QuickPay being a good idea is if an o/o has a bunch of invoices that he's still waiting to be paid on.

The brokerage I work for pays within 21 days. I've seen as low as 17 days. I'm not going to toot our own horn when it comes to settlements, but corporate's accounting department is on the ball. A lot of brokers want to hold your money for that 30-90 days to collect interest. How do you think brokerages like C.H. Robinson make so much ******** money every year?
