Drivers Hours Of Service Question

Hi all,

This has probably been asked before but here goes.

In the US and Canada drivers Hours Of Service Cycle 2 is 120 hours in 14 days. It also says you must have 24 consecutive hours off duty after 70 hours. Basically does this mean if you are out say 10-12 days you have to have one of your days off roughly half way through your trip,ie sit around for 24 hours before you can set off again. If your team driving could you and your partner stagger this so as to keep going?

Thanks for any help,

jerryb

now a days the numbers to remember are - 4 to 8, ,10, 11, 14, 24, 34, 70
4-8 = your 30 min break
10 = 10 hrs off before starting next shift if driving
11 = 11 hrs of drive time in your 14 hr shift
14 = 14 hr shift but can go beyond 14 hrs as long as not driving, unlimited hrs as long as you get 10 hrs off before driving again
24 & 34 = reset your hours, just depends on where you are if you need 24 or 34
70 = the max if driving when you need a reset, if not driving beyond 70 hrs then its unlimited but need a reset of 24/34 to start clean for driving again.

That looks like Canada rules, which are slightly different than US.

The 120/14 day cycle can only be used in Canada. When you reach the 70th hour you must take off 24 hours. So yes you would need to take a day off.

I have never ran the 120 cycle

The 70 in 7 should work for a team if you are just in Canada.
