I'd like to see a piece that covers the abuses of our time by shippers and receivers. Example: Yesterday, I arrived at a shipper well before the time of my appointment. I didn't get out of there until seven hours later. They didn't even get me to the loading area until over an hour past my appointment time and then, it took an additional four hours to load 19 pallets on my trailer and do my paperwork.
Another example: When I ran grocery, it was standard practice for a driver to arrive on time for an appointment at a meat or produce shipper and then wait at least an entire 24 hour day before the load was ready to be put on the trailer.
Example #3: I spent Thanksgiving plus two days (a day on each side) one year outside the gate of a grocery warehouse waiting to deliver because they ordered the load I was carrying and didn't have anywhere to put it when I got there, on time for my appointment. The entire warehouse closed for Thanksgiving and three of us had to spend the holiday in a parking lot with a porta-potty.
Let's talk about these abuses, especially in light of the coming enactment of a mandate that requires EOBRs in all trucks beginning Dec. 18th.
