I dunno, The Walmart provides jobs where there were none.
Walmart provided jobs to the people that got to lose thier jobs in the first place, when Walmart moved into towns, with low ball prices (on then) American made products, and the mom and pop stores or small chain stores, could not compete on the pricing level.
once the stores closed and many people became unemployed, and Walmart opened on the same spot (or down the street) from the demolished former stores, Walmart hired many of those former employee's at LOWER wages, and many times, no benefits packages, for even the PART TIME workers, that the mom and pops and smaller chain stores had.
so yeah, Walmart employs people, people they displaced by forcing the smaller stores to close.
nearly the same "Walmarting" takes place on a near daily basis with the mom and pop hardware stores.
comes along stores like Lowe's and Home Depot with thier hardware selection made in Mexico, China, etc, and the REAL hardware stores cannot compete with the pricing.
people (not all but many) WILL SHOP for pricing, not always quality, and stores like Walmart, Home Depot and Lowe's will win nearly each and every time.
we have a high quality lumber yard here in my city. been in business nearly 100 years.
lumber is priced high, but it IS the best one can buy.
where do some home owners and small contractors go..??
Lowe's and Home Depot..........cheaper wood, wet wood, very often warped wood.
"Walmarting" of American has been going on for years. No one listened to the warnings of those that cried wolf back then.........
now we get products made in foreign countries on the racks, that Walmart nearly promised us from day one, would be American, when they nearly begged cities and towns to "let them in".......
