Three more trucking companies that do business at the ports of LA and Long Beach have been accused by California Attorney General Jerry Brown of committing tax fraud and breaking labor laws.
Brown named Guasimal Trucking, Moreno Trucking and Edmund Jose Lira, who owns a small company, in a lawsuit seeking fines and back taxes.
The Associated Press reported the companies allegedly avoided paying overtime, payroll taxes, health care costs and workers’ compensation by illegally classifying drivers as independent contractors instead of employees. Many of the drivers worked for up to 60 hours a week.
