The new Bose Ride System replaces a conventional air-ride truck seat with a sophisticated suspension base and an integrated, custom-designed seat top. The company claims it provides over-the-road truckers with "an unprecedented level of protection from road-induced shocks and vibration."

Well known for speakers, headphones and the Wave music system, the company's founder, Dr. Amar Bose, also worked for many years on a suspension system that's now evident in this premium truck seat. And 'premium' is the word, with a price tag in the region of $10,000.

I met the guy who recorded those "Might be a chicken hauler" things back in 96 at the Dallas Flying J.

I instantly recognized it as a ripoff of Foxworthy, and blurted that out. "Ohhhh, I get it, it's a take off on that Foxworthy guys bit."

He got really mad at me.

Did he not think people were going to recognize that?

I bought the tape anyway. My cassette player ate it.

I wonder how much this seat costs?? I bet it's crazy expensive. Good seats are worth it though. I had a nice seat in my 379 at my last job and 850 miles a day was no problem at all. Sitting on this National barstool in this freightliner, I'm wiped out after 650. I'm still amazed at the difference.

I want something like my glider rocker recliner, I would not even need a bunk, I'd sleep right in the seat

I've seen drivers actually sleeping in the driver's seat at truck stops. I guess that after 11 hours their but gets stuck to it.

Seeing guys sleeping over the wheel was a lot more common a few years ago than it is now, it seems. I always thought this was a stupid idea, as if you get too used to sleeping in this position, it's only a matter of time before you fall asleep when you're awake!

I guess it's sort of an odd paradox that a comfortable seat can make you less tired then...

When Ironman first started to drive he fell asleep in a line to unload..he slept over the wheel and when he awoke he sow red breaklights in front of him..he almost peed his pants and hit the brakes hard!! :)

I think I've heard that story a lot. I can see it happening too.

Ever be sitting a a red light, and the guy next to you starts creeping forward, and you think you're rolling backward, and start stomping brakes, and pulling johnny bars?

Happens to me every now and then.

I used to try to sleep behind the wheel when I was a hard charger, but always ended up more tired then when I started, better to just grab a power nap in the bunk (to guarantee it was just a quick nap, I would put the alarm where I would have to get out of bed to shut it off)

no what really sucks is sleeping over the wheel when your buddy pulls up in front of you and beams his flash light on your window and lays on his train horn.

severe pucker factor there i tell ya!
