WASHINGTON — Federal greenhouse gas (GHG) and fuel efficiency rules for heavy-duty commercial trucks and engines need some overhauls to reflect the reality of over-the-road conditions, say a major trucking lobby and an equipment manufacturers’ group.
The American Trucking Associations said that while they support the “underlying goals” of the GHG emissions standards and fuel efficiency rules put forth in the Federal Register Nov. 30, 2010, there are some major concerns, while the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association urged the federal Environmental Protection Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to consider several recommendations to make it easier to meet “our common goals.”
