Im thinking of going to school close to home at MTC in St. Louis. Has anyone been there and if so what did you think of it? According to them I can get prehires before I start school so Ill know I have a job when I finish. I would need to sign either a 12 or 14 month contract with whoever I sign with to get the tution reimbursment.... Something I didnt understand though, they take money out of my checks during the contract for tuition too!?

Anyway, any advice on this school would be great. Thanks all!

I have no experience w/ them but check w/ your local workforce services office before you sign anything. There is a federal grant I used to do pay for CDL classes. The school will have info on what it takes to get it and who to contact at the workforce services dept. and what to bring them.
As for the "reimbursement" you do not get any monies. The company pays the school directly from your check. That is how they pay for your school. Just like taking out taxes - you never see it.

JTFULK,

I'll tell you what, I have gone to MTC and I have to say it has been the greatest experience I have ever had. Very good instructors and complete. Now I will tell you this. Their course is an accelerated course and you will be in school 10 hours a day and 12 hours a day your first three days there. Hell your 3 day there you are going to the DMV to take you exam for the permit. Passed it one shot one kill due to the way the instructors teach you things. If you are form Out of State (Not a local) they have housing and they supply food twice a day for you. They even supply transportation to wherever you have to go. They work with companies life Swift, PAM, Star and Werner. I myself work for Werner and they are paying 80% of my tuition and I only pay $35.00 a month for my tuition. Let me know if you need more info. You can go to MTC: Truck Driver Training CDL Training Truck Driving School for more information.

Hi I am new here-I am a stay at home Navy Wife who is a contract recruiter for 2 Tansportation companies. 1 of our companies we use just for students and the other for Experienced CDL drivers. Our Company for students train you, and yes you sign a contract for 12 months. but then get part of your tuition back if you stay the whole 12 months. A small weekly fee is taken out of your check so you don't see it. how eer the great thing about it is you have a job already straight out of school with that company once you complete school. Watch out for some of the excelerated classes. I had a driver that I was trying to place that payed extra, had a private teacher. etc. found out later on that the school did not give him credit for a 4 week course. But told him he could get a job anyware. If you are interested in a great company where you can get your training and then work for them as well. They take GI Bill for those Military out there. Let Jay and I know- this is a free service to you! Thanks, for all you guys do getting things were they need to be!

Well, we know all about you now, but does this have anything to do with the original posters question about MTC?

I whent to MTC 10 years ago. I don't know if they changed but it was allright. I know back then I got hired with Hogan and they paid for it and had to stay at Hogan for a year. The school had me in and out in 14 days 10 hours a day 14 days straight.

I talked to Hogan in St. Louis recently. They are not currently taking any inexperienced drivers even though they are affiliated with MTC school. That narrows your prospective employers to those who have fairly negative reputations here on this site and others like it.

Proceed with caution.
