05 Kenworth T-600 with a C-13: Troubleshooting procedure

What is the troubleshooting no-start procedure?

You don't give a guy much to go on, but same as any no start.

The basics are the same, no matter what kind of truck model, or engine model. Today's engines are all pretty much the same, with small differences in design, and different locations of components, and as I mention below accomplish the same thing with a different method.

Is it cranking?

No.

Then you have an electrical problem. The next steps should be obvious.

Yes.

OK, so it turns over, then why does it not fire?

Are you getting fuel?

No.

Check to see why not. It could be the transfer pump. It could be clogged fuel filters. (also be sure to check that there is fuel in the tanks, and that the pickups are OK. You would be surprised how many people don't even think of this)

Yes.

So you have fuel to the filters, check to see that it is getting to the injectors.

If you have fuel at the injectors, or injection rail, you might have electrical problems.

A defective cam or crankshaft position sensor might be the cause. (some engines use crank sensors, some use cam sensors)

Another thing to check is the air filter. There are some people who believe in those "filter minders" or "air restriction gages" on the air intake pipe downstream of the air filter, and fail to understand that when there is sufficient restriction to activate the gage, the air filter is usually completely clogged.

Also, if the engine cooling system is malfunctioning, the computer will "de-rate" the engine to reduce power and give a sort of "limp in" mode. This is to keep the driver from running the engine until there is a catastrophic failure (very expensive). If the engine is run too far in the limp in mode, the computer will shut the engine down completely, and when some systems do this the engine will not restart until a technician connects the laptop to it and resets the ecm (again, a variance from one make to another).

I hope this helps.

Good luck.
