When I was working for a towing company we had gotten a brand new truck with an Allison Auto Transmission. The Allison rep came in one day and told my drivers instead of using the brake and down shifting coming down a hill to slam it into first and left the tranny down shift itself. Now my boss about had a heart attack. This was for a roll back not a rig.

I'm going to side with the boss and Aleck....that seems opposite of everything I've ever heard as well.

Asked my hubby and he said that this is INSANE. Said where he used to work if he had done that he might have gotten fired.. Wonder if that rep knew what he was talking about?

Are you sensing a trend? you might go to that salesmans ditibutor and ask if he knows a hole in the ground.

With an automatic, you can manually select first, but it will downshift progressively as the rpm's and speed dictate. It won't go into first when you select it.

I'm not mechanic, but if someone followed the salesmans advice would that damage or ruin the transmission?

I side with everyone else. I would not do that. Did you ever go back to the rep and tell them that they are giving out misinformation? I wonder how many people actually did this? I wonder if they are working hand in hand with a transmission repair place.

You have a suspicious mind! I hadn't even thought about it along those lines...I just figured it was yet another bonehead rep who didn't know what he was talking about.

I don't know if my boss ever did or not.... He pretty much had given the guys orders not to do it... Th tranny has a gazillion mile warranty on it as long as the tranny fluid stays changed and general up keep is done. So I don't think the conspiracy theory was in play there... Thats is a good thought though
