DENVER (AP) -- The 2007 Atlantic hurricane season should be "very active," with nine hurricanes and a good chance that at least one major hurricane will hit the U.S. coast, a top researcher said Tuesday.

Forecaster William Gray said he expects 17 named storms in all this year, five of them major hurricanes with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater. The probability of a major hurricane making landfall on the U.S. coast this year: 74 percent, compared with the average of 52 percent over the past century, he said.

Hopefully it doesn't get as bad as predicted, but it is that time of year and this is something to keep an eye on. As you are probably aware, when these things hit land, while the area it hits undergoes much damage, These hurricanes tend to carry on inland in the form of tropical storms, tornados, hail, and other severe weather issues for hundreds of miles inland.

Stay safe out there if you are on the road and something like this comes up.

I hope everyone stays safe out there!
Keep your eyes and ears open to the surroundings :)

He has been way wrong the last 2 years. If they can't get the weather right for tomorrow, I don't expect much for hurricane forecasting.

My husband was right up on the hurricane in Louisiana last year.. Scared me breathless! I don't think he will be driving much this hurricane season.. At least I hope not!

Yours was there with mine Cassie! I worried until he called to say he was safely out of it. I can't remember the last time I was that worried.

Luckily my hubby is nowhere near the coast. He's running inland now....doesn't like them "horrorcanes" as our 4 year old calls them.
