Hey drivers, heads up! There’s a new recall you need to know about if you’re driving a Freightliner or Western Star truck. Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) just announced that certain models might have a brake light issue, which could lead to accidents if it’s not fixed.
Here’s What You Need to Know:
Affected Models:
- Freightliner 108SD (2024-2025)
- Freightliner 114SD (2022-2025)
- Freightliner Business Class M2 (2022-2025)
- Freightliner eM2 (2025)
- Western Star 47X (2021-2025)
- Western Star 49X (2020-2025)
- Western Star 57X (2022-2025)
What’s the Problem?
If your truck is one of these models and has a body lighting interface controller or replacement brake lights, the brake lights might not turn on when the automatic brake assist kicks in. This happens when your truck automatically applies the brakes in a situation where it’s trying to avoid a crash. If the brake lights don’t light up, the drivers behind you won’t know you’re slowing down, which could lead to a serious accident.
What’s Being Done About It?
DTNA is going to update the software in the brake assist system for free. This fix will make sure that your brake lights work properly when the automatic brakes are applied.
What Should You Do?
DTNA is sending out letters to truck owners starting November 9, 2024, so keep an eye on your mailbox. Once you get the notice, head to your nearest authorized dealer, and they’ll handle the software update at no cost.
Need More Info?
You can call DTNA’s customer service at 800-745-8000 and ask them about recall number F1009. If you’d rather go through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), give them a call at 1-888-327-4236, or check out their website at www.safercar.gov.
Already Paid for Repairs?
If you’ve already had this issue fixed on your own dime, don’t worry. DTNA will have details in the notification letter on how you can get reimbursed for any out-of-pocket costs.
Stay safe out there and make sure your rig is up-to-date with this recall. It’s better to get it handled now than risk an accident later.
