Just wanted to say Here in South Florida the Strike is being talked alot about on the CB

alot of people are stopping on monday march 31
but will be parked for some days.

diesel is at 4.10$ a gallon everywhere down here..
the yards are filled with parked trucks, trucking barely even pays the bills nowdays.

just wanted to say south florida is being hit hard and many will participate in the strike.

i also have a question is it true Jb Hunt and wal-mart trucks will be stopping next week?

I've heard some of the major corporations will be stopping but I hadn't heard which ones and can't verify any of the talk so I'm just listening right now. It would be great if they did though!

Haven't heard about JB or W-M, but there's been much talk about a shutdown lately, and it seems not to be happening. I don't live down south now, but it's surprising to have $4.10 fuel there and only $3.97 up here. I'm only 250-300 miles north, still well inside the border.

Sadly, I think Monday I'll be driving. Been sitting too long already.

Well I live in Jacksonville, Fl and the fuel is $4.06 to $4.20. I don't know anywhere in Florida the fuel is below $4.00. The word I got on other trucking web sites is that JB Hunt, Warner, challenger, Swift, Schnider National and the IWW union are all shuting down starting the 29 March.

I hope you decide to support the shutdown. Because if you don't do it voluntarly this time, you may have no choice in the future due to the price of fuel. We all need to stick together on this one. The future of Trucking is on the line and everyone knowns we can't continue to go much longer. Are you prepared to pay $5.00 for fuel?

What truck sites are these posted on? Is there any place you can link me to that I can keep an eye on? If they really ARE going to join this, it's a good thing. Please provide links if you can.

I really don't see any of the big companies shutting down. If even one of them did, I would be pretty ashamed of any small company or independent that did keep running once word got out on that.

TRUCKERS ROCK !! - Owner Operators joined by Corporate Haulers in Shutdown

BOYS LOOK AT THIS,
March 29, 30, 31 are the dates that have been set by 4 of the largest trucking companies in the industry, J.B. Hunt, Challenger, Schneider National, and Werner trucking, That's about 70,000 trucks total right there, Trucker to Trucker.com called OOIDA and they have confirmed these dates also for these 4 companies

I W W Union
called me tonight and stated that they are indeed supporting the April shutdown, They have comitted 16,000 trucks will shut down to show support for our Message To Washington D.C.
Now if you figure that each truck runs 500 miles a day & gets 6 miles to the gallon, thats 83.33 gallons of fuel per truck. now figure that at say $3.80 a gallon & thats low that comes out to $316.65 worth of fuel not bought that day per truck x 16,000 trucks = $5066400.oo
And that figure is just that 1 union , that does not include the owner / operators that are shuting down for april 1st, 2008
I wonder if all total Washington, DC will notice ??

I hope to not have to go anywhere! The problem I have at the moment, and this is only me... My truck is in for repairs now, and has been since yesterday due to a problem getting a couple parts. For me this would mean no miles from the 26th through the 31st. That's kinda rough on the wallet, as I'm sure everyone knows. I intend to bite the bullet though... IF my company says okay. And I intend to ask them to do exactly that.

As for pricing, Palatka had diesel for $3.97 and $3.99... I skipped fueling in southern GA on Tuesday because it was so high. Then I found it was the same in Palatka at the Sunoco at the 100/17 split or the one on 17S of E. Palatka. Not sure if it has changed... Afterall, it's been 2 days and we all know that's long enough these days.

I will be happy to see the large companies taking a break(if they do). That said, a friend of mine who works for Werner told me he's heard nothing about any shutdown as of yet. I'll ask again tonight or tomorrow.

I sent an email to the local news station hopeing that maybe we will get some news coverage on this matter.at least its one way to let people know.

Gatorfuel... thanks! That is awesome! I saw that blog yesterday and somehow missed that post. We are contacting our media around here like crazy, but no bites yet. I'll be watching that blog more closely. Thanks again :)
