Hammer goes to the Dark Side...

Lol. I was referring to staying under gross.
I, ummmmm, usually don't worry about that too much!

A friend of my wife's, her and her husband own an HVAC company, probably the best one in town. They rent storage to have a place to keep all their specialised equipment. The Storage Company accidentally auctioned off their storage unit, instead of the one next to them, for non-payment. Approximately $45,000 worth of equipment.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around how you could be so reckless as to not double and triple check whose stuff you were auctioning off.

Hard to believe something like that could happen.
Looks like the storage company owes your friends $45,000 plus.
I would imagine they would suffer some loss in business due to not having their equipment available.

I told them that while I don't care for lawyers, this is the time to get one involved. They basically put them out of business, it's not time to play nice. 😡🤬😡

If the money is available, how quickly could they replace this equipment? Is it even all readily available at the moment?

Don't know, but I wouldn't bet on replacing all of it quickly.

Supposedly the storage idiots are frantically trying to contact buyers, but after an auction, the buyers could easily tell them to pound sand.

I guess when you haul them, you could care less what they cost. Your interest is in the freight that takes care of your new truck payment.

Having been big truck shopping over the last month, I can tell you that inventory is at near ZERO. I've called dealers from Miami to Seattle and everywhere in between looking for a '21 or '22 Pete. Sleeper, day cab, anything. One dealer in Dallas told me that people were buying $220,000 tri-axle dump trucks and pulling the dump bodies and putting 5th wheels on them to get a truck to put on the road.

I just got a message today about my DEF sensor. Still 4-6 weeks out. I'm on the 4th week right now. The powers that be, are shunning the delete and tune. I would have done that the 3rd day after finding out the wait would be 2 months. $3000 and I would have been on the road already. The only way anyone would know is if a sniffer was put into the exhaust. Hell, Florida doesn't even check your lights and brakes. They sure aren't going to do a roadside emissions test.
The soot around the end of the pipe wouldnt be too hard to miss, but your engine will sure thank ya

Back on the road tonight. Someone came up with a tune and sensor delete that just stops the computer from accepting a fault code. Everything still operates as it should except the derate and the DEF gauge monitor. I guess we'll see. If not, I won't be more than 4 hours from the yard at any given time.

Well...That didn't last long. I left the yard and went the 15 miles to the loading rack, shut it down, loaded, get back in to pull out and the little screen is littered with fault icons. Secured my B-O-L's and left the property. Clicked into the high side of the transmission and it fell on it's face. About 6 miles to get it to 50 mile per hour and it would lose 15mph going over an overpass. Tried to pull the Indian River bridge and lost 30 mph. I limped the last 4 miles to the yard at 40 max. That's what I call one hell of a deration.

It didn't feel right empty, but I attributed that to sitting for a month and a half and got up to 70 mph okay. so I loaded it. I need to sit and wait for them to ship me the laptop with Insight on it and let them remotely program it again and see if that takes. That whole damned system needs to be bypassed. Do an EGR block off, unplug the sensors, pull the DPF out and retune the ECM. Now I have a load of Military fuel on board that can go nowhere but NAS Jax.

Looks like I'll enjoy a few more days off. That laptop is in Kommiefornia where a 2020 truck went down. Cummins has a temporary calibration out to address the def shortage, but my 2017 isn't supported yet. It seems the newer trucks are crapping out faster. The further ahead we go, the behinder we get. Damned Greenies and their save the planet BS.

They don't pay anymore because of the cut-throat brokers that are trying to load these trucks for less that $1.00 per mile per vehicle. Then you see the equipment and it will barely hold up that Bug-Eyed Sprite because they are so rusted. All of the elite carriers are doing the Concourse shows now. Screw the private buyer that needs a car moved. I ended up with a guy with a single car enclosed box for $1700. At least I know it won't go up and down on a rack 5 times before it gets here. Due Friday morning at 08:00.

I seen a guy with a single axle sleeper Cascadia pulling a 3 car, single axle wedge today.

As he passed me (like everyone else does) I wondered how that math worked. It didn't seem worth the effort to me. It wasn't one of those trailers you'd see behind a Ram 3500 but it wasn't much more than that either.

This trailer came with some strobes, they're mounted at a 45° angle just outboard of my upper taillights. And they're mostly worthless, just not bright enough. So I added a pair of 3 element Class 1 strobes just above the upper taillights. I now have effective DSH lighting! 20211003_190817.jpg

What's DSH, you ask? Why "Don't Smash Hammer", of course! 😎

Yeah, I got told to get better lights delivering on a state job a couple years ago.

Cheap compared to what it could cost me.

MNDOT has a list of recognized systems you can install. So that’s now part of my permit book too.

@Mike is familiar with them..🤣

Yeah, I’d like to have about 10 of them mounted on the back of my trailer that way I could burn the nose hairs off of tailgaters.

And I want to put a second one up there and synch them together.
