Maybe Fageol Knows...

This thread is for when we have a question about something that only someone smarter than everyone here could answer.

Admittedly some of you will have more questions than others. So we will reserve the right of answering to @Fageol himself.

Nevertheless, if you have a question of a nature you think is within his purview feel free to ask away.

@Fageol

What is the name of a word or phrase that's innocent but sounds like it's not?

For example. "I shipped my pants." Sounds like "I shit my pants."

Even though both may have been known to happen to me they are wildly different experiences.

I'm wondering what that idea is commonly called.

I don't know if there's a term for what you have written. Dropped "p's" would be an elision but in your question, not only were they dropped and not replaced by by an apostrophe (like in a contraction), but there was a substitution. I'm guessing that the search for such a term, intriguing though the search might be akin to heading down a rabbit hole in which one should know Latin. And being almost 80, Latin was many moons ago.

Hope to meet a family friend today. She's a writer and artist who lives in Colorado but a lot of her family remains in Alaska. Should you have a young'un (sort of an elision there), especially a girl, you might check out the kids' book she illustrated and wrote, "Roku & Tanza." It's a cute story about a sort of mermaid and an Orca. I'm told by Madilyn, the 6-year-old next door, that mermaids are good -- Madilyn is not one to be questioned. The author, Whitney Laurel Anderson is the daughter of a high liner and has commercially fished in Alaska. She has a lot of time on the water, i.e. she knows whereof she speaks.

It's proving to be a difficult answer to track down.

So far I've asked a Harvard and Columbia educated orthodontist I grew up with and an actual NYT Best Selling non fiction author and I've stumped both of them.

It feels like I'm delving to Santeria or some esoteric forbidden voodoo at this point.

Better you than me with that Santeria or esoteric stuff; I'm just an old trucker and that's what my tombstone will read unless Keith Richards outlives me. If Keith outlives me, I'll plagiarize some other guy in Colorado (if Biden can do it, so can this unit of hoi polloi) whose dying words were, "I can't believe Keith Richards outlived me." That ought to make a good tombstone. Were my ex to have a tombstone made for me, I'm guessing she would adapt that sentence the judge gave to Mr. Gonzales:

Why do so many people want to drive an SUV?

Give me a small car to drive around as my personal vehicle .

Are they all just stupid?

That depends on what fits your needs. I live in the land of "0" law enforcement. I want a full framed vehicle surrounding me. Namely, a Ford Pick-Up.

I recently had to rent a vehicle, they gave me a GMC Terrain. That felt unsafe to me. What a terrible thing to drive.

I miss my Lincoln Navigator. It was the first version that didn't look pussed up. Beefy SOB.

If I need extra ground clearance, then take a pickup, but rarely need it on a road trip.
They don't really make station wagons anymore.

We rented a Suburban for a road trip once. It was pretty well suited to the task. But not so much for running around town.

Little sister. The Expedition is massive. And new ones run over 80k. It's crazy.
Aviator is the Explorer version of the Navigator.

Navigator and Expedition have always been the same size.

Excursion was the big ass Super Duty and never had a Lincoln counterpart.
