The Flag on Your Trailer. Important Facts.

Sinister

pari animositate
Those of you with an American flag zip tied to the back of your trailer should know:

- the flag is mounted in what is largely an aerodynamic vacuum. There is very little air swirling directly behind your trailer. The air current traveling down the side of your truck does not meet its companion from the other side until about 8 feet after the two currents converge behind your truck.

- as a result of this demi-doldrum it does not fly straight out at a right angle majestically behind you. You are NOT proudly displaying the stars and stripes.

- it just sort of hangs there limply. Something your wife is probably all too familiar with.

I'm conclusion, you are NOT proudly displaying the stars and stripes and communicating your patriotism. The only thing you're displaying is your lack of understanding of aerodynamics, improper flag knowledge, and inability to mentally absorb the fact that when some guy passed you and you got the same idea, his flag wasn't waving proudly either.

You're not doing anything but creating a dirty flag.

I would have made this into an article for the front page but I smoked my truck laptop and my home laptop is like lugging a large gun safe around. It doesn't even fit in my laptop bag.

My truck laptop is very old and has one of the first SSD hard drives in it. It kept killing hard drives so I had an SSD put in it when they were new and paid some God awful amount for something not even big enough to update to Windows 10. Though it never stops trying because - Windows 10.

I had all my stuff loaded against the sleeper door going home two weeks ago. When I popped open the sleeper door it fell out in the laptop bag all the way to the ground. Now it won't even power up.

I could probably afford a new one but if this old one with the keys worn smooth can be fixed cheaper I'll probably do it.

I'm not doing front page articles from my phone.

It’s not that hard to find the correct information…

yes, flags made for high winds are available. Just not the $4.99 truck stops specials most of these “your noun here” fly.

My dad used to use a big kite to lift up a flag on the 4th of July every year before he got too old and lazy.

He would bring several different flags depending on the wind. If there's not much wind he would use a standard 3x5 but if there's a decent breeze he could lift his bigger one that's about the size of a car cover.

You can't put anything directly on the kite or within a few feet of it. You have to get the kite flying, get it high enough to grab stronger winds, then attach it to the line and continue slowly letting line out.

Weight wasn't the issue in deciding how big of a flag the winds could support. It was the drag the flag creates when it's blowing in the wind.

When too big of a flag is on the line, the line from the ground goes up more horizontal than vertical. Less than 45 degrees from the ground. Then from the flag up to the kite it's pretty close to vertical and because of that angle, the kite can't position itself at enough of a broadside angle to the wind to produce much lift.

Also because a kite is required to lift it and it has to be well above the flag, there's the flag etiquette rule of no other nearby "flags" being higher than the American flag.

Aerodynamically, his best kite for lifting the big flag is rainbow colored and I think that's extremely inappropriate so he got a pale blue one thinking it would be barely visible against the blue sky.

He didn't like that one because it wasn't as stable, so he got a different one that's red white and blue and that one seems to do better.

But some old guy from the VFW said it almost looks like the Russian or French flag flying a couple hundred feet above ours. :dunno:

Flag etiquette is largely unknown especially by foreigners at this time during the Euro-Cup. Some kind of Soccer thing going on in Europe that most of North America does not give a shit about.
Anyway, people flying other counties flags without flying the flag of the country they are in. Very disrespectful but it is very telling.

That's pretty cool man!

Those flags tied to the trailer doors are not patriotic, they're a desecration. Your feelings may be in the right place but you're not too smart.

I asked a guy once…”if you’re looking at flying a flag from your vehicle, have you ever looked up the proper way to do it in The flag code….”

His response…

“**** your flag code. The is America. I’ll do it how I want…”

Not even worth trying to talk to these hillbillies about this shit.

I demand and order a Flag patch on the left upper sleeve of my uniform shirts. It looks like according to the Code, I'm in the wrong, unless I consider my company a patriotic organization in which they are at heart.

@mndriver It's hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it's damned near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.

Hard to win an argument with anyone anymore but it's good exercise anyway.
