About companies, several issues (newbie)

Hi,

as stated before, I'm interested in moving to US and working there as a driver. OTR to be exact. So, I've got some info from the embassy and that raised a couple more questions.
1. I've got a CDL here in Finland though I haven't driven for living for several years. Are there any companies in the US who are willing to train newbies to the business?

2. And after that part one is answered, the second question is: Do you guys happen to know any companies that would be willing to apply work permit for me? Since I can't do that myself, the company which employs me should do that.

3. When can I start? :tiphat:

4. What would you think about foreign driver who's willing to make his contribution to the business?

Yeah, I know that these are dumb questions but nevertheless the answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Janne

Yes, companies hire new drivers all the time out of School. Most likely you would be required to do this also (go to truck driving school).

2. And after that part one is answered, the second question is: Do you guys happen to know any companies that would be willing to apply work permit for me? Since I can't do that myself, the company which employs me should do that.
No, sorry I do not know any company that will do that off hand. My suggestion to you would be to google trucking companies, trucking jobs etc. and write or call and ask some company's for yourself.

3. When can I start? :tiphat:

As soon as everything is legal and legit, would be my guess.

4. What would you think about foreign driver who's willing to make his contribution to the business?

As long as the foreign driver was here legally, I see no problem with it.

Yeah, I know that these are dumb questions but nevertheless the answers would be greatly appreciated.
The only dumb question is the one you never ask.

Thanks in advance,
Janne

Oh yea almost forgot welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the above. But there are more questions, one to start with:
1. Which companies will train (pay for) your school? Not that I could invest that money by myself but for the work permit, it would be easier to be trained.

The reason why I'm asking so much, is simply: Don't want to do any mistakes and keep everything legit. Stricktly legit.

And thanks for the welcome, it's nice to see that even a dreamer like me feels that he isn't bothering anyone by useless questions. :)

I don't know who you need to contact, or how you need to go about this, but my guess is that it would be through our Government. I think they would get you channeled to the right people to talk to, and they probably have companies to refer you to at that point.

I would avoid SWIFT. Not bashing their company, but they have some legal issues going on with their training program right now, and you probably don't want to get involved with that.

I work for CRETE, and I did meet a driver from Europe who works for them. This is his 2nd time to come over here and drive for the company, this time he is planning on making it permanent. So I am guessing they might be able to work with you on this, or at least advise you on how you need to go about it.
