Actual miles versus what the broker quoted.

"Most brokers won't book a load until they speak with the driver". In my experience as a company driver, the load is already booked when I call for pickup numbers. They do sometimes insist on me calling them for that info rather than give it to the carrier though. So you're not totally wrong there. But if it's CH Robinson I stubbornly refuse to call them and somehow the information I need magically shows up on the Qualcomm anyway.

Since they started giving shippers and brokers access to our satellite tracking, it seems like they quit calling for updates every 30 minutes.

That is correct, alot of apps like Samsara are great because you can get a tracking link for a certain time period. That way Broker can check locations. If you're an OO and are booking loads for yourself, it's very unlikely you have this so they will call you, or request Macropoint or they have tracking apps.
And certain brokers due to a relationship with carrier might not need it. But as I said Most brokers aren't booking unless they speak to drivers. And due to so much competition if they book a load, you sign the rate con. And don't follow thru with their procedures they will cancel the load.
As I said carriers, OOs drivers have no upper hand.
Its just the way it is

I figure by time. Because in the end that is what you are pricing.

Nope. You can get a 400 mile load that pays you $2000. But you pick up Monday and delivery is Friday. Then what??? You either get $5 mile or you don't. Or you take a load that is 700 miles but pays $1200 and it's FCFS delivery. Then what do you do??
As a carrier I'm taking$2k cause I have anther trailer that a driver can take and have my $2k load delivered by a different driver. As an OO you take $2k and waste a week, or you take less$$ but make up in other loads, but you are wasting fuel, hours, other freight opportunity

comparing apples and oranges. A fleet with multiple drivers/trailers is nothing compared to an O/O with a single trailer.

They each have their use and purpose.

That's my point. That OOs have no clue what is going on, and because you're in your own truck means NOTHING!! Youre not special!!!'

Apparently you don't have a clue about the inner workings of motor carriers. Dispatch and load planning functions are the fire break between employed drivers and third parties who coordinate freight. Drivers don't sign ratecon for a motor carrier. Quit pretending you're more than a Swift driver. We all see through your BS.

You really are smart. As an owner op you take neither load because the are both money losers.

After one company I worked for lost all its customers they went to working off of load boards.
New dispatch too after a "reorganisation". New dispatch would give us the rate con with the rate on it. Later they figured out they should use white out over the rate that we could scratch off and see the rate.

****ing really? You are hauling this load for $700.00 :rolllaugh:****ing moron!
The manager thought he was a pro-PGA golfer and also a business manager. I am not sure what one was funnier.:rolllaugh:

Oh yeah, this is very common! They'll get nice paying loads and adjust the rate, and depending on your contract keep 10-20%.

Tanker company I worked for showed us the rate. I took many loads down to the Mexico border, and they had to be making a killing on those loads. Even after whatever charges may have been involved in moving it cross border, if they was included, the rate was still Yuge!

Your tanker load booking team was better than my company team. $700.00 for a load originating in Toronto to Jersey, Cross border and all the road tolls and they only made $700.00? take out drivers pay and a leased truck payment per month plus 10 CPM to the lease company, I would say they were not making money.

Yeah I would say I pretty much know everything about trucking! Because I learned every aspect of it, from driving, loading, consolidating, equi repair, booking, Brokering, scheduling, TL/LTL, rail, HOS! So if you have any questions ill be more then happy.
Just because you can't handle the truth please don't assume to much. Cause im very well versed in this industry!!
*in a slimy Hannibal Lecter voice*

Please.... Thrill me with your acumen..
