Six suspects are in custody following the announcement of a bust involving a multimillion dollar cargo theft ring in the greater Toronto area.

The Peel Regional Police made several arrests in connection with a series of violent hijackings involving millions of dollars’ worth of cargo, according to an Oct. 9 news release.

The arrests stem from a March robbery involving a delivery truck hauling $6.9 million worth of cellphones and tablets. The load was hijacked by two suspects armed with a gun from the area of Steeles Avenue East and Goreway Drive in Brampton.

Police say the victim and the loaded truck were transported by the suspects to an industrial plaza in the area of Clark Boulevard and Summerlea Road, Brampton. While at the location, the suspects reportedly transferred the load of electronics into a waiting truck and fled the area, at which point the victim was able to contact police. The victim did not suffer any physical injuries as a result of this incident, police said.
