See stupid steering wheel holder? Snap a pic and post it!

J79... Whoa!

F4 motor.
The F4 was like the 69 big block Chevelle of fighters.
Never got to wrench on one, although we did have one or two canned up on the boat........and we had zero F4's onboard. :dunno:

"Fiscally dry"

When you want to sound intelligent but don't know how...

"speed limit was 60 doing 65 like I always do"

...and proceed to prove it.

But anyway that whole caption is so blatant it's probably fake.

Useless Express. How many people were surprised?
NONE........ that's how many.

"......and the ****er just flipped".
Man I hope he uses that sentence in the investigation.
This is hard to explain but it's funny.

About a decade ago there was a frontage road that dead-ended with a little U-turn loop, shaped like a light bulb, with swamp in the middle. Only big enough for cars. A big truck's off-tracking would put the trailer in the swamp.

It was at I-57 exit 315 in Illinois, northwest corner of the interchange. It's all filled in and paved & shit now though.

Anyway I was in my pickup one day and saw a Schneider with his trailer axles down in that swamp, trailer leaning about 45°, only prevented from rolling over by the fact the tractor was articulated to the left. The tractor frame was twisted and it's passenger side drive tires were a few inches off the ground.

I pulled in there to see if I could help because from Rt 50 I couldn't tell it was jacked up that bad. I just thought he was stuck and needed to back up out of it.

Anyway the guy was the single dumbest male person I've ever met in my life.

He told me the trailer was tracking OK on the pavement and then all of a sudden it slid 20 feet sideways. Even though the tires were axle deep in mud and they made OBVIOUS RUTS clearly showing the path into the swamp, it did not slide sideways. It would have taken a tornado to slide it anyway, it was loaded and it was the middle of summer. No snow or anything.

He must've said "Schneider emergency maintenance" about 50 times too. Like they were going to fly in on a unicorn and turn some wrenches and fix it and he'd be on his way. 🙄

His level of stupidity exceeded my patience so I left before "Schneider emergency maintenance" got there.

I worked radar on them. You just don't know how familiar the sound of that jet is.

Now THERE'S a good way to **** off the neighbors at 2AM 😅

Totally. At night, you'd see flames shooting back 30' in full burner. It sounded like a friggin' rocket. They'd tow them out to a deserted part of the base to set up the mechanical throttle controls and do full military power and afterburner tests. There was a 6" diameter steel post driven into the ground with a huge collar fixture attached... they hooked it to the arrestor hook to hold the jet back. The ground was blasted to rock 100' behind the holdback fixture.

The Trim Pad.

Graveyard shift full burner trim runs at 2 AM. Hell yeah! You could hear them 10 miles away.

Worked jet shop on CV66 and directly behind the doors (hatches whatthe****ever) leading to the fantail was the test cell.
Test and tune basically.
They would put that TF30 (F14) on the rails and run it up to military........you couldn't even hear your thoughts.

About a week outta boot camp I'm in A school at NAS Cecil and they took me out to the test area for the squadron and put my newbie ass in the cockpit and told me to hold the brakes.
So I did.
For the better part of 45 mins I held my feet (that's all both of 'em) down on that pedal as hard as I could, thoroughly convinced that I was the only thing preventing that A7 from becoming airborne.

Christ I think the hold down chains they were using coulda held a dozen of these planes down.

Could hardly walk for 30 mins after that.

Schneider Emergency Maintenance

Them's got to be the busiest sumbitches on the planet.
I got stuck in the snow with a tag axle and when Schneider Emergency Maintenance said it'd be several hours before they'd send someone, I got a guy plowing with a front end loader to push me out. 15 seconds later I'm up the dumb hill and rolling on.

F waiting.

I called back and said cancel the tow I already got out. They asked how I said you don't wanna know.

I don't have any experience with any jet with an afterburner but, I'll tell ya what. Just looking at that jet start/air start brought back my fears. I hated when we had to use those things mostly on DC8s, they could not start on there own. So yeah get like 2 engines going so they could cross-bleed to start the others.
So you are in front of a live engine and walk in front to unhook the hoses that could kill you.
Pushing back an aircraft that is powering up and the ramp is icy and snowy, Good times not :D

Of course the military will use a civilian airport from time to time. We were out rounding up ramp equipment at night on the ramp but near the runway and all I heard was LOUD and then saw the flame and that was about all I seen and heard and the plane was gone!
