CVS fires employee for tackling robber

This is terrible. I’ll never shop at CVS again. You have a right to self defense even if your at work. He worked there for 5 years. The corporate suits that fired him are nice and safe in the office. The employee had been robbed before and wasn’t gonna take it this time.

CVS worker tackles suspected thief, gets fired

CVS employee fired for tackling man who allegedly attempted to rob pharmacy: 'We're not allowed to fight back'

well i watched the video

frankly, CVS is right..let the thief take what they want and get away..

this is what security cameras are for.

had the clerk OR the pharmacist been hurt, killed, there would have been some sort of lawsuit against CVS, we all know this crap happens.

now, had that been a privately owned store, BY that clerk, and he fought back, so be it....

but in today's corporate world, the lawyers and insurance companies dictate company policies, which both men clearly broke.

i go to a CVS store EVERY MORNING for my newspaper and sometimes to pick up my elderly mothers meds...

i know ALL the late night employee's, and spend time there talking with them

they have ALL said, it is company policy NOT TO GET into any tussle with a robber......

that actually SAVES lives, especially the employee's...!!

so do't go to CVS like you said, what about if this happens at Walgreens, Rite-Aid, etc,etc...you gonna boycott all the stores that have a COMPANY POLICY IN PLACE, against getting into it with a robber.??

on YOUR JOB, is it YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get involved with a robber..???

i think not.....

best to re-evaluate your thoughts.

He had every right to tackle him.

You stand there and do nothing, next the robber could pull out a gun and shoot you and you die because you chose not to tackle him when you had a chance.

Walmart fires employees for physically detaining suspects also. Walmart has had to pay out large settlements when the suspect claimed they were injured in the confrontation. I'm not on the side of the bad guys but I understand the company policy and why it's that way.

Many states have laws that prevent thief’s from suing for being detained in a robbery.

I’ve seen security guards tackle and handcuff thieves and wait for the police.

On your property you have that right. As an employee you ceed that right to your employer and their policies for such an incident

And??? What does that have to do with the liability the corporation may incur from injured employees, customers or their survivors?

That's security guards... not store employees.

no, you're wrong....you stand a chance to get shot or stabbed when you try to take down the criminal...

even cops recommend not to try anything stupid.

but go ahead, be the stupid DEAD hero......

you are now talking PAID security guards that have a responsibility, over a paid clerk that does not...apples/oranges...smarten up..

The thief assaulted the pharmacist, it went beyond a robbery at that point. If you’d do nothing when your co worker got assaulted then I’m happy your not my co worker.

And it doesn’t matter if you’re a security guard or not, you do not forfeit your right to self defense or to defend a friend because your on the clock.

first of all, go back and really watch the god damned video....

the thief puts his hand on the pharmacist to get way, he does not hit him.....

then the STUPID CLERK tackles him

this is wrong on all accounts...

the thief was trying to get away peacefully without trying to stab or shoot anyone..the stupid clerk actually initiated a situation where if a gun or knife was on the thief, all would have been stabbed or shot

i'll stand by the CVS decision 1000%

company policies RULE.....all others get fired, and i'm glad they BOTH got crap-canned...

I did watch the video, I posted it. You’ve made one of the more assinine statements I’ve ever seen. You say the thief put his hand on the pharmacist to get away peacefully, that’s completely absurd.

You say the clerk initiated the situation. That’s wrong as can be.

The thief initiated the situation. By committing the robbery in the first place.

And you take the side of the lawbreaker thief.

Here’s what you need to do.

Reach back behind your back.

And pull your head out of your ass.

no, just like a burglar in your house.....you cannot shoot him trying to exit....that's murder if he dies....

you let him leave, peacefully, and you too will live.

you shoot him coming towards you NOT exiting.

just cuz you live in a fantasy world of your own making, does not make you right to the rest of us....

Yup that's why you blow his legs off instead of shooting him in the back. Then when he turns to shoot you, you eliminate the threat.

F*ck off about not being able to defend myself, family, and home.

Don't want shot? Don't come in.

Not in Texas.

Here in Texas I can shoot you if you steal so much as a toaster. I don’t care if a burglar is coming in or going out. In my house that’ll be a dead burglar.

This guy killed 2 burglars that broke into his neighbors house but as they left they came on his property and he blew them away. The grand jury refused to indict him and his neighbors rightfully supported him. God Bless Texas.
