New Cascadia DD15 Fuel Water Separator - Detroit or Davco, and why?

I am looking all over the internet for accurate pictures/videos of the fuel/water separator for the new cascadia. The big Davco comes up constantly, but not seeing a visual on the Detroit option.

This is one of the final specs I need to decide on before making up my mind whether to buy this truck or not.

Davco is $150 more than the Detroit, so price doesn't really matter.

The Detroit filter on my Cascadia is a 3-filter affair. The injectors run off a high pressure common fuel rail, and are a tighter spec than those on a Series 60. I'm not sure If want a Davco on this engine. Pics tomorrow.

Yes, but many also have an additional fuel/water separator. Some use a Detroit, some use Davco or other brands. It’s basically a 7-8 micron filter they the fuel goes through before it reaches the main filter system.

You can't find a fass or airdog system for a new dd series e gone because the system already has it on it. Basically been designed into the fuel injection.

I ran an 09 cascadia in 2012 when I went back on the road. I must say with a 10 speed, I hated it. Especially in the mountains. The 13 speed dd15 I drove, I loved it. So I think it's more the transmission than the engine.

The engines we had, had the davco 487 on them. Didn't seem to really bother them. I've seen davcos branded Detroit. I'm just wondering if that's what's got you all flustered.

The frame mounted separator is a large Davao. The newer dd15 has a 2 filter system that has a water seperator in it. The older had a 3 filter that had a seperator. It’s part of the fuel module on the engine. You can’t get it without the engine one, the frame one is optional.

I think it is actually a Detroit. Looked up the one I think it will come with and it is definitely not a Davco. The Davco option will cost $150 more, but I’m more concerned about the cost of filters long term. I found a video that shows the Detroit filter, I will see if I can find it again.

That’s some new shit that wasn’t out when I was in the game. However long term I think you’d do better with a davco. Filters from Davco or Fleet guard will always be cheaper than the filter from Detroit.

Doesn't look like anything on my engine.

Filter cost, that is where my biggest concern is right now. I have no idea what filter is in that Detroit setup, so no idea if I can get it through anybody else.

You're looking at a 50,000 mile replacement cycle @Mike - it's a lot less expensive than on the older engines. I'd think more about putting an oil bypass filter on, going to full synthetic, doing extended drains, and oil analysis.

A Detroit filter which will be minimum $15 higher than anything else you could buy.

This filter is in addition to the standard filter setup that is on a 50k cycle. It gets replaced when it gets dirty and shows the need to be replaced.

Not fooling with a bypass filter if I get this truck. Oil will be changed at 50k like clockwork.

Yup... need to get my FASS running again.

Spectrographic oil analysis... it'll tell you when the oil needs changed, and much, much more. It's certainly not "fooling around."

I know all about oil analysis and will do it. Still changing my oil at 50k if I get this truck.

Running an OPS on my current truck.
